About Aimpoint
In 1974, a small group of Swedish entrepreneurs started exploring ways to improve shooting accuracy, with the deceptively simple goal of creating a sighting technology that would allow shooters to acquire their target quickly, and hit moving targets in all weather and lighting conditions consistently and accurately. The result of their efforts, the now ubiquitous red dot sight, would eventually revolutionize the shooting and hunting industry.

The company's first commercial sight product, the Aimpoint Electronic, was introduced in 1975, and quickly developed a reputation as one of the fastest way to aim a firearm. The Aimpoint red dot sight has continued to evolve over the past 35 years by working closely with experienced hunters, marksmen and military weapon experts, and there are more than one million Aimpoint red dot sights in use worldwide today.

Very durable optic, used one in Afghanistan for 12 months, on top of already being used and beat up before even going there, it took plenty of beating while I was there as well. Been dropped, frozen, submerged in water and rain, and cooked inside of vehicles reaching temperatures of 130F+. Held a perfect zero at the zeroing range after I got back from afghanistan, no adjustments made. Endured about 500 combat patrols, and beat to hell no issues.

After leaving the Army or more specifically the infantry, I purchased one for my own AR15. Same model Comp M4. The only difference between mine and the Army's that I used is that the Army's have almost no finish remaining on them, other than that performance is un touched and identical. This is built like a tank. Great low diode settings for NV capabilities as well. The glass on my Army aimpoint was severely scratched however I don't blame the optic I blame its past operators.

I have had the ability to use others peoples optics at my local gun club. I compared this sight to some guys "sight mark" EOtech wanna be i think its called the sight mark ultra shot. Omg 2 completely different world you really can see what is quality and what is a toy. the sight mark is a toy. Did not function at all, turned off after every other shot held no zero it was terrible. I also compared this to an EOtech XPS2 I bought and later returned. The EOtech functioned perfectly but the reticle looked very fuzzy to me, like staring into a laser pointer. It looked very laserish. It bugged me so I returned it, aimpoint is my go to for sure when it comes to accuracy and reliability.

The Aimpoint M4 is the newest in a long line of military grade optics from Aimpoints. The only difference between the M4 and M4s is that the M4s' battery housing is at the 5 O'clock position giving it a slightly lower profile. While the battery housing on the M4 is at the 1 O'clock.

The M4 has a slightly higher entry price than the M3 but the M4 has a built in mount which comes complete with a riser. Quality aftermarket mounts of this quality will easily add 100-150 dollars to the M3 price tag. The M4 also runs on any commonly available AA battery and has a run life of over 80,000 hours (that is almost 8 years). With the included riser the M4 will mount for a cowitness with standard AR sights on a flat top upper. While the M4 looks bulkier compared to the M3 it actually is not. It will come in about the same on the scale as the M3 with a quality mount.

The M4 can be had for a bit less than the MSRP price so it is worth shopping around. But what you get for your money is the best optic red dot available in a full size package. If you are looking for a premium optic in a slightly lower price point or size the Aimpoint T1 (or H1) is also a top of the line optic.

I bought the Aimpoint comp4 after looking at several different red dot sighting systems. I needed something that could handle the recoil of my Benelli M4 shotgun. This is a lethal combination for home defense, I am very pleased with this purchase. You will not be dissapointed.

use this reflex sight with my Barret REC7 and love it. amazed at how accurately and quickly I can hit the 200yd steel gong at my local range. even with weapon twisted to the side, the Comp M4 compensates. Mounting super easy, quick, and stable with the integrated picatinny mount. 1.5" groups possible at 100 yds-not bad for a 2 MOA, non-magnified reflex site! Highly recommend this sight.

I use the same sight in the military, works great in the harshest conditions you can think of. Holds zero very well and has a very long battery life. I would buy one used if possible to save a few bucks. Very solid construction and great mounting system. Has both night vision modes and regular red dot modes. The brightest setting will be able to be seen even in the desert with clear skies and all sun. Great sight overall and i trust my life with it.

Compared with the CompM3, this is more expensive and the ergonomics aren't as good, especially in regard to the lens covers. However, it's a great sight. I docked it one point for the cost and lens covers. However, I own several EOTech 512s, so I have to consider the comparison. If I were in the military or a sworn officer, I'd definitely want the Aimpoint no matter the cost. Unequaled battery life, solid as a rock, superb mount, easy to zero and maintains it well. On the other hand, the EOTech is almost half the price and performs every bit as well, although it doesn't have the battery life and is much less well water sealed, based on the published specs rather than actual experience. If you want lens covers or a quick detach mount for the EOTech, you have to buy aftermarket from GG&G or someone else (the GG&G Accucam is superb, the lens covers less so). The Aimpoint comes with a set of bikini lens covers (front and rear attached by straps), so if you want flip ups, it'll cost you another $80 (!). It should be noted that you'll have to remove the front flip cover to replace the battery (nearly impossible to do, and not something that would be convenient in an emergency). As a civilian who shoots at paper and strike plates, I'm thrilled to own two Aimpoints, an M3 and M4, If I have to buy any more red dots, I'll stick with EOTech. A perhaps minor consideration is that the EOTech is (cue Bruce Springsteen) Born in the USA. The Aimpoint is made in Sweden. One small warning: I bought this from another vendor through Amazon, and they did not include the short screws to install the mount without the spacer. This is a minor point, since it co-witnesses with my irons perfectly with the spacer, but if you needed to remove it, you'd have to complain to Aimpoint.Read more ›
