Product Description

Aimpoint PRO Patrol Rifle Optic 12841Designed with input from a distinguished group of current and former professionals, the Patrol Rifle Optic incorporates many never before seen features to maximize this sight's performance within the challenging conditions faced by modern law enforcement. A hard-anodized 30mm tube was utilized, enclosing a high efficiency circuit that allows the sight to be turned on and left on for up to three years using a single battery. The Aimpoint PRO Patrol Rifle Optic's front lens utilizes a unique band-pass coating, which allows the sight to be used with all generations of night vision devices. The modular QRP2 mount includes a removable spacer that indexes the sight at the optimal height for co-witness with the standard iron sights on AR15/M16/M4 Carbine style weapons. This spacer can be removed to enable the use of the sight on police shotguns or sub-machine guns. The QRP2 mount for the PRO Optic also incorporates a torque-limiting twist knob that provides the optimal level of pressure on the rail while completely eliminating the possibility of over-tightening. Both the PRO Optic's front and rear lenses are recessed within the sight body to provide protection against impact damage, scratches and fingerprints.

Very well made, easy to install and dial in, and top notch optics and quality.
As far as I am concerned, Aimpoint and Eotech are the top choices in red dot sights.
A battery life of 30,000 hours is pretty good and translates out to 3.7 years.

The AimPoint PRO offers a lot and that's why I purchased it for my AR. The PRO comes attached to a decent mount, has flip-up lens covers, offers several regular and nightvision brightness options, and has a claimed battery life of 3 years. In the box I received the optic, with flip-up caps and mount already attached, a battery, a battery replacement reminder sticker, an allen key for the mount, and a set of instruction booklets.

The mount on the AimPoint PRO utilizes a torque-limiting knob. Simply attach it to a picatinny rail and twist the knob until it clicks 3 times. At this point you have reached the optimum tightness, leaving your optic secured firmly to the rail without causing rail damage. I've removed my PRO several times for cleaning. There are small areas where the finish of the rail is slightly scuffed, but I'd say that's about on par for any mount. I have had zero problems with the mount shifting during use. Also the mount includes a spacer that can be removed. For me, the height seemed perfect with the spacer in place. There are two things I dislike about this mount, the size of the knob and the direction of twist to tighten it down. The size complaint is pretty self explanatory. You can see by the product image that it's a large knob and it sticks out past the optic tube. The direction complaint is probably a personal problem, but when forcing the optic forward in it's groove on the rail, and tightening it down with the knob, it tends to move backward so that the optic isn't seated all the way forward in it's groove. It's managable, but can be tedious.

The flip-up lens covers are a nice feature because they keep dust off of the glass while in storage.

Verified Purchase
EDIT: Updated with more info, and fixed some content to give better explanations.

With this Aimpoint PRO you truly do "get more than you pay for." I switched to it from an Eotech 512.A65 because I hated the 65MOA ring on the Eotech. It seemed to always cause problems with my vision for both eyes open shooting. I also found that the Eotech was a little low for me when mounted straight to the top rail. I may have needed a riser for it, but the fact that I was not having much luck with the reticle and the height issue was not really worth me getting a riser to see if that might help. To me the reticle being compatible with your eye, shooting style and brain is the most important part of the optic.

When you get this it is simply packaged in a plain white cardboard box. No fancy tupperware or pelican case for it. Simply a plain white box with some stickers on it. Inside it some run of the mill foam. So why just a box? Well this was designed to be purchased and used by police departments. When Aimpoint first introduced them they were only available for purchase by law enforcement. Most police departments, at least the ones I have been associated with, could care less what it comes it, they just want a product that works. The cardboard box also helps to keep the overall cost of the product down. The boxes are literally meant to be tossed (or recycled if thats how you swing) when the optic is taken out and mounted. Also inside the box is an allen wrench for taking the riser off, shorter screws for using without the riser installed and one 1/3N-Cell battery.

First impressions of the mount and optic together is "that is one HUGE knob..." It is much bigger than it look in the pictures, and it sticks out a fair amount.

You've probably read some of the other reviews, so mine will probably not surprise you...but perhaps I can offer a little something different, including how much you really should be paying.

What you get:
- A fantastic red dot optic with a wide range of adjustable levels
- 30mm tube for quick target acquisition
- Built-in flip covers that you can work with one finger...and an ability to leave both closed to use the optic with both eyes open
- Waterproof to 150 feet depth
- Included mount that allows quick mounting/unmounting...while maintaining zero
- INSANE battery life

I cannot understate the battery life. Many less expensive red dot optics that are supposedly competitors have battery life rated in the range of hundreds of hours. For example, the Vortex Strikefire at max brightness (dimmer than PRO at max brightness) is rated at 130 hours. The PRO is rated at 30,000 hours at a brightness level 7 (of 10). Frankly, this is the reason that I normally only consider the Aimpoint line. I want it to work...and at 30,000 hours, you don't even turn it off and it works for years.

Of course, there are alternatives in the Aimpoint line, including the much lighter and smaller T1 and H1 models, both of which have longer rated battery life....and they are also excellent options. That said, I went with the PRO, because:

- It includes a mount
- It is far less expensive
- I find that the PRO's flip up covers are far easier to operate when I am ADS
- The larger tube makes quick target acquisition a bit easier for me

The cost is also not a small issue. The T1 and H1 retail for close to $600...without a mount...although LaRue has some great bundled mounts available for only slightly over $600.
