While I am a fan of Jesse, and support his governorship of Minnesota, I'm not clouding my review with my agreement with what he says.

Let me start off my saying that I respect Jesse Ventura very much. I loved him as a wrestler. I loved him even more as a play by play announcer for wrestling and more and more I respect him as a politician.

While I am a fan of Jesse, and support his governorship of Minnesota, I'm not clouding my review with my agreement with what he says.

This is a book by a politician (albeit not a professional one) espousing his views on many facets of political (and therefore social) life. Jesse is very articulate in what he believes, and says it well here. He is consistent and clear - thus gaining him 5 stars for this book. You will definitely know what he thinks, and what he is doing politically, after reading this book.

I also appreciate his willingness to replay his life - what brought him to where he is, and especially I appreciate his candor and his honesty about even the not-so-glamorous things he has done. He makes no apologies for what he has done or for what he believes, which is a very welcome way for a politician to write. His book would benefit from more exposition, but he covers an awful lot of ground here, and as he often says, he just doesn't have the space to go into great detail about everything. Hopefully he will continue to write, and will concentrate on more specific items in those writings. But of course, one can also watch his governorship to learn more about the specifics, too.

It is unfortunate that he gets the bad press he does - he is one of few honest politicians out there. Whether you agree with him or not, at least he tells us what he thinks and believes about the many important things he is doing as governor.

5.0 out of 5 stars Jesse Ventura is an inspiring role model., December 5, 1999

Jesse Ventura has done what most Americans have not. He has lived his life demonstrating who he is. He is 100 percent himself. There are no lies and no regrets. Total honesty with himself and others. What a freedom that is! This book is very inspiring to read. It has helped me to be more honest with myself. Thank you Jesse!

5.0 out of 5 stars Very informative, touching and inspiring..., October 22, 1999

This is a very good book. You get to learn about the Amewrican way of life through a true all-American guy. I have never met or read anything by one so patriotic, whgo stioll believes in what he stands for. I followed Jesse from his early daus in the WWF and later WCW. He then completely disappeared until I found out he was elected governor of Minnesota. I had to find out how that happened. I checked him out in the WWF 1999 Summerslam and on the Leno show. He has certainly changed, but you can still feel the colorful, strong headed man he always was and will always be. His book is inspiring for all Americans and those who aren't to reach out for their dreams and that whatever you do, there is always a thin line that leads from one part of your likfe to another. I don't agree with Jesse in all his veiwpoints, but I'm not his twin or brother to agree on everything he says. The book is funny, lighthearted, and was surely the fastest read in my history of reading. This book says it all.

5.0 out of 5 stars Informational and Daring, November 3, 1999
By A Customer
Jesse Ventura is portrayed like a joke by the media. Everybody is willing to cut down what he says and blow things out of proportion. I was a critic at first also, however, his book did an excellent job discussing the issues he wants to tackle as governor and I agree with most of his ideas. One must read this book to gain full appreciation of probably the only politician who is not afraid to speak his mind.

5.0 out of 5 stars The Guv's Book Rules!, September 4, 2001
I have become disenchanted with the propoganda of the "Big 2" parties and have decided to be independent. It was refreshing to know that there are many others like me, including Minnesota's most controversial and colorful political head, Governor Jesse Ventura.

"I Ain't Got Time to Bleed" shows great insight into Ventura's psyche through his life story which all leads up to his highest and most prestigious position ever. The words may be raw, but they are real. He gets on the "common level" and transcends typical politics through gut wrenching honesty founded on solid principles. Whether you agree with his philosphy and political ideology or not, his story is certainly entertaining, fairly common, yet highly captivating.

I highly recommend his book and I've just obtained his latest book, "Do I Stand Alone?" and cannot wait to finish it!

3.0 out of 5 stars Great Guy, OK Book!, August 5, 2000
Let me start off my saying that I respect Jesse Ventura very much. I loved him as a wrestler. I loved him even more as a play by play announcer for wrestling and more and more I respect him as a politician.

This book is ok. It reads very fast. I read the whole thing in two days sitting by the pool while on vacation in Florida. Its an easy and interesting read.

Somethings did surprize me about the book. I thought that the real good stuff in the book would be about his wrestling and military career. That was not the case. Those chapters in my opinion were not that good.

What was great about this book was the story about his election as both mayor in a small town and as Governor of Minn. Those were very exciting chapters and I really felt proud for Jesse reading those chapters. This book does prove that anyone should and can run for office.

The more I see Jesse as a politician on TV, talking about the conventions and the two party system the more respect I gain for him. Seriously, the more I hear him talk, the more I believe what he says. He really makes sense. Alot of this comes out in the book. The book is great for the political aspects of Jesse's life. Unfortunately, the book does not do the same for his pre-political life.

It also made me very happy to read that Jesse was very pro-Union. Also, as a teacher I respect and agree 100% that a major solution for any and most educational problems in this country across the board is a reduction in class size. The fact that Jesse talks about this so much too me shows that he understands what really goes on in schools today.

So again, an easy book to read. Interesting in the political stuff, but a bit lacking in the SEAL, WWF, and movie career of "The Body/The Mind."

Jesse Ventura in his own words. He is a believer and an achiever. One might not agree with everything he says, but his honesty alone deserves respect. A great book about a great man.

I was surprised how well the book flowed. Jesse has led an intersting life. You may not agree with everthing he says, but I have a new found respect for him. I wish all politicians could be as forthcoming as Jesse. You will enjoy this book

of course its basically an infomercial, but its got some meat. a nice read. the message I found most appealing is what a person can accomplish if they are fearless (or just embrace what they fear).

2.0 out of 5 stars Heard the political spin before, but the man is interesting, June 4, 1999
By
Michael J. Fraioli (Washington, DC USA) - See all my reviews
The book is interesting in that it provides a valuable insight to one of our nation's governors. For those of us who only knew Jesse Ventura as a flamboyant "wrestler", we were exposed to much of the rest of his life experiences -- Navy Seals, Mayor, Sports Talk Show. However, Ventura's proclamations remind one of the Ronald Reagan simplistic message -- lower taxes, raise defense spending and balance the budget. The criticism regarding what Governor Ventura chose to reveal about his personal life is laughable. I'm not sure if he was bragging or if he is smart enough to have done a pre-emptive strike. But had he not told us about his background, no doubt someone would have sooner or later. A quick read, and, while not spellbinding, he is Governor.
