The Best CD to get by WSP!!,
By A Customer
This review is from: Ain't Life Grand (Audio CD)
Whoever did that 1st review does not know what he is talking about. This is the best CD to get as your 1st from WSP. Wrangler would weird out any first timer. Trust me I know. I have weirded out many a friend's that way! But if you are looking for WSP's best album this or "Everyday" would be my choices. I first heard Panic in 1990 but in '94 I heard this album and I have been hooked ever since!!

PANIC stricken from that moment on...!,
This review is from: Ain't Life Grand (Audio CD)
This was my first WSP purchase. When it was first released back in '94 I bought it even though I hadn't heard any of their music yet. But I remember hearing "Little Kin" for the first time while reading Col. Bruce's whacked liner notes (my first introduction to him, too) and knowing right then and there that I was hooked!Twelve years and numerous shows later, plus having since bought everything else they've put out, this one is still my favorite. "Jack", "Blackout Blues" (especially great for listening to while skiing!), and the title track are standouts that rank at the top of my list. There's not a dud track here. If you don't have it, get it! While you're at it, check out some Col. Bruce and/or the ARU, too!

Not an indication of what this band really represents,

Being a rather large Panic freak, I give this album three stars only because I would say this is not the album to start with if you want to hear what Panic is all about. Musically, the album holds up fairly well, but as far as studio efforts go, I would head to "Space Wrangler" or "Everday". To get a sense of the "true" Panic take a listen to Light Fuse Get Away", or better yet, check them out in person. Their live shows are incredible.

Great album to pick up after you have first listened to "Everyday," and "Space Wrangler." This is an album that grows on you and gets better with each listen. If you are just getting into Panic, look out...you're in for a wonderful ride! I envy you.

Widespread Rules!!,

This review is from: Ain't Life Grand (Audio CD)
I recently crushed my foot(broken in several places) and have been recooperating with the help of W.P. Although I have been heavily medicated most of the time this is still some of the greatest music I have ever heard. I've been a Widespread fan for a while, but until recently I have only owned 3 of their CD's. In the last month I've purchased every CD they have. They just get better and better. I can't wait til I break something else!

I am a WSP newbie. I just went to my first-ever Panic show last month and used this disc as a warm-up. It's stayed in my CD changer ever since and I probably play it start-to-finish four or five times a week now. There is some really strong playing here that gives a taste of WSP's live strengths. Of course, no studio CD can adequately capture a band's live aesthetic, but this is a good enough place to start familiarizing yourself with the WSP phenomenon. "Airplane," "Heroes," "Fishwater," and the title track have all become favorites. "Blackout Blues" and "Jack" are also really nice cuts. A bold prediction: if this CD is your first experience with Widespread Panic, it won't be your last! Enjoy.

Anyone not on this Panic train better get on...double time it actually. Houser is gone, RIP, but they are still KICKING it hard and innovationg like you would not believe. SO if you have "heard" or "wondered" if they are worth your 15 bucks for a cd, the answer is YES. I am listening to "Jack" right now while writing this and I want to get on the tail end of there tour right now. Forget the "jam band" hype, this is rock n roll that will change your life. Long live The Roadhouse in Athens, GA.

An awesome album, I especially like the title track.,

Next to "Light Fuse Get Away," I think that this would be a perfect beginner's album. I agree, Space Wrangler (even though it is awesome, and probably my favorite studio album), it probably would weird out the first time listener. "Blackout Blues" is an incredible song, and "Can't Get High" isn't far behind.
