3.0 out of 5 stars You can say that again
This book was disgusting and distasteful but intriguing nonetheless. Only an experienced lover of this type could write the homosexual love scenes contained in this book that was not only explicit, but enlightening. Prior to reading this book, I wasn't privy at all to how men got down with each other.

It was evident that David and Val loved one another,...

PR Hawkins has written a novel different from the conventional love story in Ain't Nothing Down About It. In this novel, she delves into the relationship of David and Val, two men who love each other immensely but hide their love from society to shield them from ridicule in their successful careers.

David and Val meet as college roommates and both of them have previously lived as heterosexual men. It is not until they have a hot, steamy, encounter of sexual discovery in the shower that they realize that they have feelings for each other. Prior to this encounter, neither one of them had homosexual thoughts or experiences so these newfound feelings take both of them by surprise. At first, they ignore the encounter and continue on in their respective lives - David as a successful novelist and Val as a well-known dancer. Eventually, they come to terms with the revelation and decide to forge a relationship that lasts for years, yet they decide to keep it a secret to the outside world. It is not until the reemergence of Patti, David's super sexy ex, that his and Val's relationship is put to the test and they are faced with a major decision about their liaison.

Even though the subject matter covered in this novel was a departure from my usual reading, I found it to be very well-written and enlightening. I thought it was quite interesting how Hawkins chose to write a story of homosexual lovers in which they did not embrace being gay even though they had been living as gay lovers for some years. I felt that the writing from this perspective gave the novel more depth. I definitely was not prepared for the explicit and erotic sex scenes but it was done in a way that was cohesive with the storyline. Fans of E. Lynn Harris and James Earl Hardy will definitely not want to miss this read!

5.0 out of 5 stars KUDOS!!!, September 15, 2006
This review is from: Ain't Nothin' Down About It (Paperback)
I went to the book signing in Los Angeles @ Eso Won Book on La Brea. Meeting P.R. Hawkins for the 2nd time was a great experience she a great woman w/ a great sense of HUMOR. Okay enough about the Author lets talk about the book I just have 1 word to say SEXY! P.R Hawkins did a number on this book, she took a life that no one really talks about and laid it down in a way people could understand and be okay with it. Val & David have a love that most people dream of! Believe me when I say that this book gets better page by page!

I really enjoyed this book. Like everyone I am very busy, I often start reading books, get distracted, put them down and never end up finishing them. But this book kept my attention from beginning to end. It is a well written love story with a lot of drama. I definitely recommend this book. Especially to all of you subway riders out there. My subway commute was always over too soon when reading this book.

5.0 out of 5 stars Awesome!!!, September 2, 2006
This review is from: Ain't Nothin' Down About It (Paperback)
To be honest I gotta say I almost didn't read this book after reading a few pages and I was aware of what the book was about to be about, but I decided to read a few more pages and was drawn into the characters and the writing style that was simply so beautiful and poetic, that it was difficult for me to put down. It was tastfully written and I gotta say I can not wait to see what the author will write next. P.R. Hawkins has some serious talent.

5.0 out of 5 stars A Book That Touched My Soul, August 20, 2006
This review is from: Ain't Nothin' Down About It (Paperback)
I just read the last sentence of this book, and I can not express the way I feel right now. "Ain't Nothin' Down About It" was simply amazing. The story of David and Val and their sincere love for eachother was one that needed to be told. This book was not one that gave graphic sex scenes just for their shock value, although there were sex scenes (boyyyy were there sex scenes!). After reading the book, I was so ecstatic that it ended as it should have - two lovers tested by temptation but who remained together throughout their trials. I am cheering for David and Val deep in my soul, and I am anxiously awaiting P.R. Hawkins' next book! Do yourself a favor and READ THIS BOOK! I can not say enough about the writer's magnificent storytelling ability. God, what an awesome read!

5.0 out of 5 stars Author P. R. Hawkins Put It "Down" With This One, September 9, 2010
This review is from: Ain't Nothin' Down About It (Paperback)
I was going through books on my bookshelf to take with me on a weekend trip, and picked up AIN'T NOTHING DOWN ABOUT IT by P. R. Hawkins. I had read the book some years ago, but couldn't remember the storyline. When I began to read it this time, it seems to jump off the pages and play in front of me life a drama you would watch at the movies or on tv.

P. R. Hawkins is an incredible storyteller, and has weaved together a not-so-conventional love story that is filled with the components that you would expect of a conventional love story. Understand? Maybe you do or maybe you don't, but I think without giving too much of it away, I have to say that you have characters who are not only learning and feeling comfortable with what they want in life, but learn what it really means to love no matter who the person is or what others think.

What has happened to Hawkins anyway? I ask this question aloud, becuase hers is a voice we could really benefit from today with all of the same ole, same ole in urban fiction being pumped into out of the industry and onto the bookshelves.

If you haven't read this one, you really should. For me it was definitely worth the second read.

5.0 out of 5 stars booklova, March 5, 2009
This review is from: Little Black Girl Lost (Paperback)
This is one of the most captivating and compelling series of books that I've ever read, and I am an avid reader! The story of Johnnie Wise is so riveting that you'll want to continue to follow her journey through every novel. After reading the first one recently, I purchased volumes 2-4, and am looking forward to reading the next volume! Believe me, Keith outdid himself with this series and you will definitely want to add it to your collection!

This book is a quick read. It has nonstop action and keeps the reader interested till the ending twist. I could not stop reading once i started and look forward to book two. Mr. Johnson is now one of my favorite writers because he gives spice and dimension to the characters in this story!! I feel like i have met this heroine and her friends and am affected when things happen to them. I highly recommend this book if you want an intriguing, fast paced read that deals with real topics and bring the characters to life!!

5.0 out of 5 stars Little Black Girl Lost 1-4, October 19, 2010
This review is from: Little Black Girl Lost (Paperback)
I love this series. I have read book 1 thru 4 so far waiting on 5 and Johnnie Wise Returns. I was proud of Johnnie for being so smart as to save the money from her forced sexual encounters. It was sickening to think her mother turned her out. the series is very interesting to the point you have to read the next one just to find out what happens next. Series 4 deals with the slavery and how Johnnie Wise was produced, it brings out alot of emotions from ones self. Keith I must say you are a brilliant writer.
