5.0 out of 5 stars Great Videophone product
I have had agreat time with this videophone and friends across the US and in Japan. The picture quality is pretty good and I have had no problems with setting this up or getting it to connect. The other review slams this product pretty good and I do not understnad why. Videophones CAN NOT have a 56K modem because the H.324 standard calls for 36K only. 56 K modems...

I got a chance to test this device rather than buy it and was sadly dissappointed. I got a chance to test this device rather than buy it and was sadly dissappointed. As slow as video over phone lines can be, this device only comes with a 33.6 modem instead of a standard 56k modem built in. The configuration interface is primitive, using the phone keypad to maneuver through the menu, reminiscent of old DOS programs. The screen can be toggled between pc or camera view. There is no way to open a window on the desktop to show the camera view. And as far as this being advertised as a surveillance camera or baby monitor, the only thing you're going to monitor will have to be in the same room as you because of the length of the monitor cable. I can't imagine paying so much for so little.

56 K modems transmit in one direction only at a time therefore it is far to much bandwidth for a standard telephone line and you would only be able to communicate in one direction which does not make sense. This product works well and there is no delay with the audio and only a slight delay with the video (this is all adjustable based on your preference). I think this is a greaty product at a good price. You wont get any better video unless you get a T1 or ISDN line which is expensive, has a high comlexity for setting up and just costs way too much. This overall is great idea and delivers on that idea.
