Great book but can be improved,
By C F (Jakarta, Indonesia) - See all my reviews
This review is from: Air Alert II: The Complete Vertical Jump Program - Revised (Paperback)
Don't get me wrong, this is a great regimen to follow. The problem is, it requires complete dedication. You won't get the results promised if you only do the workout 3 times a week. I tried that and I gained nothing in 2 weeks. But when I worked out for 2 weeks, 5 days a week, I actually gained 2.5 inches on my vertical. I feel the nutritional instructions could also be improved. If I could do it all over again, I would NOT follow the nutritional instructions. It is not complete information. Because of it, I gained a lot of fat and is still not able to get rid of it. It is advisable that you know your physical limitations and adjust the program so it fits your physical abilities. Otherwise, I believe it is a very helpful book.

Much Promised, Little Delivered,
By Utti Hietala (Jr.) (Vantaa, Finland) - See all my reviews
This review is from: Air Alert II: The Complete Vertical Jump Program - Revised (Paperback)
I purchased the program in hope to gain at least 8 inches on my vertical jump, just like the guarantee states. However, as I did the program 5 days a week for the whole 12 weeks, my vertical decreased the whole time and after I laid off for a week after those 12 weeks, I may have ended up with around 3-4 inches more on my vertical. Now, this may have been because I had a relatively high vertical to start with (32-33 inches). Basically the program is probably great, if used with a diminishing frequency. My body couldn't take the repeated stress from the workouts the whole 12 weeks. 2-3 times a week instead of 5 would have been better, significantly. So this program is most likely directed to people with low verticals or low fitness backgrounds to start with. I have had many friends gaining even more than 12 inches with this program. But they all started from very modest vertical jumps. P.S: I sent my program back to TMT Sports for a full refund like the money-back-guarantee stated to be possible, and I never heard from them again. Makes me wonder...

Total waste of money!,

Do not buy this item if your vertical is over 28" or you are an experienced athlete. The books methods don't train fast muscle fibers that are needed in jumping, on the contrary, the only thing it trains is your lactic acid endurance. I gained nothing, instead after 5 weeks of that crazy overtraining I had an injury on both of my knees (jumper's knee). The best method to improve your vertical leap is through weight training (low repetitions and heavy weights) and plyometrics (The Science of Jumping, Jumping into plyometrics, etc.). The AirAlert2 could only work for individuals with poor jumping ability (< 20"), but for them too this is a bad choise because of the high risk of knee injury. The best vertical program I know of is The Science of Jumping combined with weight training.

My son started this program, but was playing basketball four times a week. His legs were so fatigued that he could not be 100% on the court. The author recommened cutting back to three times a week. Even though he was unable to contiue, after six weeks he gained 3 inches. Now that he has stopped the program he has gained more. After basketball season he will start from week five to completion. It's hard work, but I think it really works.

Not perfect and not for everyone...,

I think this program can help if you use it right. I ordered this program about 3 years ago(Y2K, Seems like yesterday!). I did the whole 5 days a week program starting from week 1. After about 6 weeks, I got nothing. Even though I did feel like I might have gained like an inch or so. But then the workouts got too exhausting and seemed to hinder my vertical. But now, I been thinking about starting again from Week 6 and doin it 3 times a week instead of 5. My advice to anyone who wants this is to pick a week that is challenging and after week 12 add the reccomended amount of reps and sets according the book each week. If you do anything that exhausts your legs like walking a far distance or playing pick up games, do the program 3 times a week. I always thought 5 times a week was tooo much. Isn't the theory that if you workout, you should rest 48 hours before doing it again? I think that gains will come much quicker that way.

Only in seven weeks I got five inches to my vertical. The program works but you have to really work for it. Great book for all who want to fly.

By the way, later on the author Timur Tukel sent me email and explained they had not received my refund request for some reason and told me they would refund my program after all.
