Initially when my Dog was a puppy and into a few years of age, we stuck with Purina Puppy Chow and then tried several Pet Store brands some not so good and what's advertised on TV, big brand names and some obscure brands sold only online, all of which contained grains, carbs and veggies among a mix of meat proteins and God knows what else.
A number of years ago after my Dog had some health issues for bladder infections, the Vet prescribed a food just for that reason, very expensive and after further education I saw the #1 ingredient was Corn, after feeding my Dog this for a month or so, I stopped. I took it upon myself to feed higher quality pet foods and the issue went away and never returned. I also got a new Vet. Dogs are carnivores based on their non-domesticated ancestors, sure they can eat some of it, but having it as their main diet or a high %, is not what nature intended for them.
Over the years since, I tried several higher quality brands in an effort to curb some paw licking and chewing that a became frequent, Vet said there was a yeast infection and mentioned it could be food. I went to Grain Free, I tried many different brands, Wellness, Taste of the Wild, Nutrisca, Orijen, Acana and Fromm to name a few. I actually lost count of all the foods I tried, I removed Chicken from the diet thinking there was a Chicken Allergy, helped a little but paw licking and nibbling continued.Read more ›
This actually IS raw food, but it's been air dried. It's shaped like little wafers and is also useful as a training treat. I have used them in treat puzzles for my dogs also. My dogs have never, ever turned their noses up at any variety of ZiwiPeak. It is some of the best dog food you can give your dog. If you're on the fence, you should give it a try.
This food is expensive, there's no doubt about it. But it is very high quality. It gets 5 stars on Dogfood Advisor dot com. It's grain free and has no rosemary added. I've found some of the best prices for this food on Amazon as well. Would I feed this to my dogs if I had big dogs? Unfortunately, probably not. But I have three little dogs with a gross weight of about 50 pounds, so ZiwiPeak is doable for us.
I always suggest checking Dogfood Advisor to people considering trying a new food or looking for the best food for their dog. I feel good about feeding my dogs ZiwiPeak.
