Down a Darkened Corridor,
By Richard Loomis (Rocklin, California) - See all my reviews
This review is from: Air Force Academy Candidate Book : How to Prepare, How to Get In, How to Survive (Paperback)
Individually, they march with precision down a drakened corridor. Without exception their primary goal has become acceptance. It is earned with humility, self-sacrifice and presistence. Through the alchemy of the "4th Class System," these golden boys and girls of America's finest high schools have been transformed. Tempered by forces of pressure and stress into links of steel, they have becomen young adults mature beyond their years. They have secured a place in the Chain of Command. They have become upper classmen. They are the next generation of America's military leaders. If you or your child are thinking about applying to the Air Force Academy, you can't afford to overlook this book. Easy to read and informative, the book is built around candid interviews with cadets, graduates and instructors that have lived this truly unique experience. The book offers much more than just an explanation of how candidates succeed in the selection process. For potential cadets the book clearly explains that taking the "oath" signals a change in your "way of life," not simply the beginning of a college experience. For parents it offers a candid view of the 4th Class System, its rigors, goals and outcomes. I honestly couldn't put this book down, once I stared reading. I'n not surprised that the Academy Gift Store sells this book. It's honest, enlightening and entertaining.

A must-have for all candidates!,

This review is from: Air Force Academy Candidate Book : How to Prepare, How to Get In, How to Survive (Paperback)
I got this book at the USAFA bookstore a couple of years ago and it is wonderful! It's most helpful during the application process, especially for interview tips. There are sample questions and suggestions on how to present yourself. The "How to Survive" section also gives handy advice for staying sane as a fourthclassman. Although I'm not at the Academy yet, I can say that the "How to Get In" section helped me immensely during applications.

This is an excellant book for any high school student who is considering attending the U.S. Air Force Academy. The material is well researched and organized. The book gives you a realistic view of the Academy, but it also is very encouraging and positive for the reader. I would also reccommend this book to all the candidates' parents. It is a helpful guide. As a parent of a son who plans to attend in 2004, it is well worth it to purchase the book.
