Lots of indoor fun, but bring your earplugs!, February 3, 2009

This review is from: Air Hogs R/C Havoc Cyclone Airplane - Styles May Vary (Toy)
I bought this for my son this past Christmas and the whole family had a lot of fun with it. Younger kids (under the age of 8 or so) may have a little more difficulty learning to fly this plane as it does take a little practice/patience to get the hang of it. Once you do, watch out! It is so much fun. We had a great time seeing who could do the best stunt, keep it airborne the longest and so on. I would have rated it 5 stars except for one thing...it is a bit loud! The little motor makes a lot of noise for such a small thing. But overall, it is a great toy. Very durable too. I would recommend this toy for kids 10 and older.

Air Hogs fair, January 31, 2009

Airplane is very lightweight. It seems to discharge fairly rapidly, requiring frequent recharging during play. Often the plane ends up flying upside down. Although my boys (ages 9 & 6) enjoyed playing with it, the fascination wore off fairly quickly due to the fact that it seemed to have some flying difficulty and recharging problems (mentioned earlier). If you get a super good deal on this plane, it's probably worth your money.

best indoor flying i've found, August 13, 2008
= Durability:5.0 out of 5 stars = Fun:5.0 out of 5 stars = Educational:4.0 out of 5 stars
the Air Hogs Cyclone is the best indoor infra-red (IR) flying toy i've found, and i've tried a LOT, from Havoc and MicroMosquito helicopters to Dragonfly and Vamp ornithopters to Palm-Z and NanoHawk planes (if you're not familiar with any of those, no worries because the Cyclone excells on its own merits)
i find myself struggling trying to describe it, though. it's a "plane" because the shape of the body generates lift, but it flies more like a helicopter in that most of your control goes to adjust altitude & direction instead of speed. the speed is pretty constant, so increased throttle tends to give altitude instead of speed, and decreased throttle drops altitude instead of slowing down
full throttle makes it do strange and fun stuff, like the "torque roll" -- the Cyclone will start to climb, then stall, then "prop hang" briefly, then start spinning on its axis
i have a tiny living room, but found myself doing nice comfortable figure 8s. the Cyclone can take off from a smooth surface in about 18", and can land anywhere
the foam is the same used in NanoHawks, not the bendy foam in Aero Aces. what does that mean? it'll break if you sit on it, but you could THROW the thing into a wall as hard as you wanted, and because it's so light (7.5 grams) it'll just bounce off and flutter to the ground
i'd recommend this to both first-timers as well as experienced flyers
