Product Description

From the Manufacturer

Enjoy flying the Hawk Eye with its full functional control in flight plus camera recording functionality!

Product Description

Hawk Eye is capable of taking clear and steady video recording even while it is flying. Base on the outlooks of above image the heli has 2 channel IR (possibly the same chassis as the Sharp Shooter) that includes throttle and left/right control with analog trim. There are two separate buttons on the controller, one for picture and the other for video. This futuristic looking Heli/Droid looking RC indoor copter is the latest from Air Hogs RC. It can shoot clear and steady video and its video eye-in-the-sky camera is positioned for forward-looking aerial surveillance. Its built-in "Steady-Fly" gyro technology and co-axial rotor design make the Hawk Eye very stable and easy to fly. The camera can capture up to 5-minutes of video (320x240 pixels in full color) or it can take hundreds of photos (640x480) An included USB cable allows quick download to your PC to view, share and edit. The Hawk Eye also charges through your computer. The Hawk Eye comes with free access to a unique Air Hogs video editing platform located at airhogs website where you can personalize your video with sound affects, images and text. You can even showcase your video creations online to share with friends.

Durability:    Educational:    Fun:
Previous reviewers touched on the highlights ... 3 to 4 minutes of flight time, poor quality pictures and video. But for what I paid for it ($49), I wasn't expecting stunning video quality. It was interesting to view the video taken from the helicopter's point of view.

The helicopter relies on infrared remote control, not radio, so any time the device loses line of sight with the controller, it crashes or falls to the ground. I could fly the helicopter reliably as long as it stayed within 15 to 20 feet of me, otherwise it lost its signal and crashed.

After 4 or 5 charges, the helicopter refused to fly. As soon as the blades spin up, they shut down. I tried replacing the controller batteries, but that didn't fix the problem. So, after one day of "fun" with the Hawk Eye, it's going back to the store for a full refund.

Durability:    Educational:    Fun:
TLDR - Fun toy for the price. Camera is a gimick, not all that great.

So.. the camera on this thing ain't great. It's really just a toy RC helicopter. You get about 3-4 minutes of play out of it, then you have to charge it up. It's a lot of fun. It takes 2-3 runs to figure this thing out. I still crash it constantly, but it hasn't broken yet. You hook this up after you're done flying to get the images off it. The control is a bit limited, and sometimes the thing doesn't respond right away, but completely meets my expectations for the price.

The blades move fast, and could be dangerous to a young kids eyes, but other than that, I would let me 10 year old play with this, no problem.

I use it in the house, and haven't broken any thing or anyone yet, but it's completely possible to knock glass over or something.

Durability:    Educational:    Fun:
This was awesome during Christmas Day, the quality of the videos is good, pictures low res, but so what, it's pretty amazing. It was still awesome on the morning of December 26th, but during late morning - suddenly won't take off. It takes a charge while on the base unit (light turns green), but then when it's removed from the base and switched to on to fly, the light turns red and won't take off. Put it back on the base and it charges again until the light turns green, indicating it's charged, then the same thing happens again and again. Followed the instructions about letting the battery cool down, minimum time between flights, etc., and the helicopter wasn't abused. The durability for mine was not exactly acceptable, and I hope mine was the one bad unit in the bunch.

Fun toy
This is pretty fun! The camera has better quality than I thought it would. It is frustrating though, but you eventually get the hang of it.
