this aircraft is very fun to fly. it soars and stays in the air for a good amount of time. however, i left somthing sitting on top of the air plane when it was charging, (probably the contoller) and the thing broke. overall, this is a good airplane if you are not looking for a hobby like one of those gas airplanes.

I ordered 3 of these a few days before Christmas 2009 from [...] for $[...] each, with less than $[...] SH/Tax. FIFTEEN dollars folks! UPS delivered the planes 2 days later. I'd rank the plane higher except that I've only gotten to use it once. It is very easy to fly. It doesn't get as high as I would prefer, but it handles very easily and turns responsively to the controller. It isn't super fast. My major problem with the flying is that the tail seems to drop down a bit farther than I would have preferred...not giving it a totally level profile in flight. Anyway, if you can go and get one, it's a lot of fun and very easy to use. Other than to want to watch it taxi to takeoff, I would suggest just tossing it into the air to conserve battery charge.
UPDATE: September 17, 2010 The planes are fun to fly. It works much better if you just throw them into the air. It saves battery, as I noted above. Just be very careful with any wind. They are light and will do a high bank and be in a tree or on a roof--I've had to recover them from both. Also, if there are trees or buildings near you, it's easy for them to disappear in the background. An open field is best.

I bought this plane and at first thought it was junk. I was about to return it when I deciced to wait to see if I could get it going. Sure enough, it started working. The only bad thing is that it needs wind to start up. Yesterday I got it to launch off my Aunt Sheley's driveway turn left and go straight for about 45 feet. The only people I would not recomend this plane to are people that don't get a lot of wind.

This is a toy that's simple to fly. There are no rudders or elevons; just throttle, left and right controls. Powerful motors lift it high in the air. Take offs from the ground are better going against a little breeze. I've had it cruising along high in the air. Wish it could go on water and was more manageable in the air. It's good at what it does. The unconventional shape is unique. Kids and adults want to know what it is. It resembles a scorpion flying in the sky. Overall, it's a durable fun toy.

We bought one of these for my son a few year ago, and I was *really* nervous about it. I'd smashed many a foam glider when I was his age and this thing had motors on it. But, here we are, 3 years later and the Storm Launcher is still going strong. The poor thing has been stuck up 100ft trees, slammed into pavement nose first, carried off by the wind, and generally banged about by by both the boy and I. Yet, it's still flying and I've never had to replace a prop or glue anything back together. It's not super responsive to the controls, especially when it's breezy out, but you'll get the hang of it pretty quick. The only real complaint I have for it is the charge vs. flight time. Obviously, the boy and I would *love* it to recharge in 10 seconds and fly an hour, but realistically it's more like 30min charge for 10-15min of flying time. Note, you'll want to be somewhere with a lot of space, like a soccer field amount or better.

After only about 15 minutes of flight time with my 2 grandson's who liked the launcher, I was the one retrieving the Air Hog when it landed and I noticed it was missing a propeller and we were unable to continue flying the launcher. I need to find out where I can order replacement propellers.

This craft is a squirrelly flyer. If maintains excessive pitch, and does not steer in a stable manner.
You can GREATLY improve the crafts climbing ability by reducing weight and air drag. This works: * Take off the long protector sticking out the top * Remove the wheels and the hard plastic in the pontoons that retain them. * Use a razor blade to carve down the rear section of the cockpit * Carve out the pontoons leaving only the inner wall *** ALTHOUGH THESE CHANGES WORK, YOU WILL ONLY BE ABLE TO HAND-LAUNCH THE CRAFT *** |
