Product Description

From the Manufacturer

What makes the Air King high performance bath fan series unique is the UL listed molded high impact plastic housing that provides multiple benefits. "Traditional" bath fan housings are fabricated from steel which involves bending and welding. This is a more expensive process and over the life of the fan welds can break, causing the fan to operate much louder or even with a rattling sound. Metal housings reverberate and echo noise. Because the Air King high performance bath fan is in an all plastic housing, there are no welds to break and the plastic is a natural sound absorbent material. If you live anywhere near salt water, or the unit will be used in high moisture areas, this fan is an almost must. The UL listed molded high impact plastic housing will not rust, giving the unit a longer life. The high performance exhaust fan series features a unique snap-in installation system. The included bracket nails or screws to the ceiling joist allowing the fan housing to "snap-in". This is so simple you can even replace an existing fan without having to rip out large sections of ceiling or climbing into the attic. Connect the wiring and the ducting, install the easy fitting grill and you are done. A bath fan installation can now be done in minutes instead of hours. The motors are suitable for continuous operation. The 4-inch plastic duct collar with back draft damper insures quiet operation and prevents drafts from entering the room. UL listed for use over a tub or shower when installed in a GFCI protected branch circuit. This unit features a 90-CFM blower at 2.5-sone which makes for quiet operation. Exhaust capacity for rooms of approximately 90-square-feet. Housing size: 9-1/16-inch wide-by-8-1/2-inch deep-by-4-3/4-inch high.

Works great and is very quiet.

Pretty quite and pretty easy to install considering I did not have access to the attic.

Compared these fans to other products available, this was by far the most reasonable.

Bought the 90 cfm/2.5 sones unit to replace the builder's grade 50 cfm/4+ sones. The additional airflow was noticeable and the noise wasn't - just what I needed.

The frame is all plastic, which means no rust, though seeing how the bracket, motor, and motor mount is steel, I wouldn't place too much value on that aspect. The box is more rigid than the typical bent steel box, however, so there is value in that - no rattles.

Installation was a snap - literally. These units have a separate bracket that you screw into the joist, then snap the unit into place from below. It's much easier than the usual small-flange-at-the-edge mounting that other units use. Indeed, I spent less time installing this unit versus removing the old (working in a cramped attic space, nails to pry out, etc.) A plastic grommet and 3 wire nuts are included too - a nice touch.

The included materials note that ventilation fans have a 5 year warranty, not just a 1 year, so the manufacturer is confident that it'll last. I hope so too, as I intend to purchase more to replace the other noisemakers.

UPDATE: 2 years, 3 months later on the first unit, and all is still well. Much dustier, of course, but no squeaking or rattling at all. This is used in the busiest bathroom here, so it sees at least 40 minutes of use everyday.

It took me less than 2 minutes to remove the old fan and over 2 hours to install this Air King. I am very happy with the quiet, functional fan but the design of the fan made for a difficult installation.

The design of this fan could have easily been slightly different and allowed for a much easier installation. After cutting a minimum size hole, I was unable to maneuver it from above or below and get it into the snap bracket. I finally found that if I remove the connector from the body that hooks up to the hose it can be inserted from below, but you still have to go into the attic to re-attach the hose connector and hose.

Had the connector been directed away from the bracket instead of to the side, it is possible it could have been installed completely from below.

Now that it's installed, I do enjoy this Air King fan. The air exhaust is superior to what I had before and much quieter. It is an excellent fan.

I've been nagging my hsuband to change the fan in the bathroom for the past 3 years! He finally started to look for them and saw this one got really good reviews. We purchased it and installed it. We love it! It works so great and it's pretty quite... If I have to replace the one in the downstairs bathroom I will definately buy this one again!

This is a great fan-quiet and powerful-but it's really meant for new installations and I was using it as a full replacement for a different make. It took two hours to install it in my existing location but it would only take a minute or two in an exposed location on a joist. Wiring and vent hose hookups are easy. This fan uses a squirrel-cage design-similar to the fans in most furnaces and air conditioners. It's very quiet but it moves a lot of air. I highly recommend it.

I strongly recommend this fan. I have installed fans like this one in bathrooms for years. The difference is that this fan sells for 40% of what you'll pay for Broan and Nutone. The fan has a 5 year warranty, the others have a 1 year warranty. It is a very good fan, as I have one in my own home. I am a licensed electrician and plumber.

I must say that I love this fan. It installs easily, is completely self-contained, and is much quieter than my NuTone fan (that was purchased for 3 times the price of this one). The fan displaces much more air than my previous fan even though it is rated the same CFM. The integrated vent and auto-damper is a very nice touch. My NuTone did not have any of these features. The fan's plastic body also makes less noise, looks nicer, and moves air more efficiently than my current, NuTone fan (with a metal body and snap-on plastic vent adapter). The only bad thing about this fan is the cover/grill. It's thin and cheap and I am not completely happy with it. This is a problem with most fans anyway, and this one is cheaper, quieter, easier to install, and of higher quality than comparable fans at the big hardware stores. Those complaining about sound do not have experience with bathroom fans with this type of CFM. This fan is quiet for the amount of air it moves and it spins up quickly with little to no vibration (compared to other bath fans). I would buy another if I needed one.

This fan works perfect! Installation was a breeze! We needed a fan in our laundry room-approx 10 x 12. Humidity level in this room prior to install was 75%!! We let the fan run all day and it dropped to 52%. Fan does a great job and it's not very loud when running. GREAT buy! Comparable fan at 2 different Box stores is around $75!

Yesterday I received the AirKing bath fan and decided to install it right after work. I had an old air king from 1967 which had to come out. That took me 2 hours and a mess to do. Then I realized that the original duct was only 3" in diameter while the recently purchaced AirKing was 4" in diameter. I picked up a 4" to 3" converter and snaped the whole thing together in 30 minutes! No more loud noise. I'm very happy with the New AirKing!
