5.0 out of 5 stars Adorable! December 3, 2002
Format:VHS Tape|Verified Purchase
This movie is a wonderful addition to our family viewing library. It is an absolutely clean, safe, and totally enjoyable movie for the entire family, even the youngest members. My grandchildren and my husband and I have had a blast watching it together and the kids ask to see it over and over again. I highly recommend this as a fine family movie!

Anyone who is an animal lover should see this movie. And anyone who is not an animal lover has got to love Buddy the dog. Because he is one of the most beautiful dogs I've ever seen. The movie also has great values and it is a fine christian movie. Anyone who does not agree with me that Buddy is adorable should get there head examined. I love goldens! especially Buddy and this movie is awesome!

5.0 out of 5 stars Air Bud The Review July 1, 2005
The Movie that started an empire of B movies. See this movie, and you have seen all the air bud movies. But hey, its a golden retriever that can play basket ball... soccer.. football... brain surgery. These are fun and light hearted and worth it all. Mutt dog befriends moppy kid and show kid the light. If any thing, the brooding of the kids in these series gets tedious, but otherwise, its worth the price of admission.

4.0 out of 5 stars A Fun exciting "Boy and his Dog" adventure! July 15, 1999
Format:VHS Tape
"Air Bud" was a wonderful movie, it had plenty of action, tender moments, suspense, laughs.. everything you want in a family movie. The only reason I rated it 4 stars instead of 5 was because of the use of profanity in a couple of places. I felt that was unnecessary.

It is the quest of any connoisseur and lover of film to find the perfect movie, the holy grail, the light at the end of that maddeningly long tunnel. That film is Air Bud. I'd say a film like this comes along once in a decade, but that would be severely understating the sublimity of what has been captured here. This is not even the film of a lifetime, this is a film that will live on through the ages, passed down to children, and used by aliens to capsulate the only good to ever come out of human kind. What we have here is a story as old as time itself: a boy, his dog, his dog's ability to play basketball. The trials we all face when our basketball playing dog gets taken away by a clown. The triumph of winning our dog back in a custody battle paid for by taxpayers. Like all great films, Air Bud asks more questions than it gives answers. Why are all clowns horrible? Why can't my stupid dumb dog play basketball? How stupid would the coach guy have looked if they had lost the final game? It's these questions that can haunt a man, make him leave his wife and four children to go on a spirit quest in the deserts of Nevada with an Indian guide. But it is also these questions that invigorate life, let us know we don't know everything, and that maybe we shouldn't. Maybe we should just watch a dog snout a basketball through a hoop.

A film as nuanced as this is greatly aided by the audio commentary: so much I missed is touched upon by Buddy and his puppies, I feel I truly understand the full scope of Charles Martin Smith's vision. I applaud their ability to resurrect Buddy, now fifteen years dead, to drag his carrion carcass in front of a microphone to provide insight from beyond the grave.

5.0 out of 5 stars GRAND, FUNNY MOVIE!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! June 24, 2005
Format:VHS Tape
This movie is a VERY good movie!!!!

I LOVE how this dog can play Basketball! It start's when a young boy named Josh and his mom and sister move to a town. Josh's dad died and Josh has been sad after. At the same time a Golden Retriever breaks free from a man who beats the dog. When the dog finds Josh the dog brings happieness back to Josh. Josh names the dog Buddy and keeps him as a friend. When Buddy soon shows Josh that he is a GREAT basketball player Josh soon enters Buddy and himself into the team. When Buddy's owner finds out what Buddy can do the man trys to get the dog back! Watch as a Golden Retriever plays Basketball and as Josh will stop at nothing to save the dog from more abuse.

Do buy Air Bud!

The acting is GREAT!

5.0 out of 5 stars Delivered quickly, my sister's children loved it.
Great value. The first in a series is usually the best, as is true with Air Bud. My sister raises Golden Retrievers, so I though her children would like to see this movie.

3.0 out of 5 stars Not as expected.
Did not come as expected. I did not see listed that the dvd was only in a slip case and not in a real dvd box. The dvd works fine, but disappointed it's not in a real case.

The dog's name was actually Buddy, as in the film. And he had to have his leg amputated, and then later died of cancer. Pretty sad :( RIP Buddy.
