5.0 out of 5 stars They sang
I have to disagree with the previous reviewer. From watching their movements and listening carefully to the vocals, and watching how they match, I believe that they sang most of the songs except one. On that one song, the duo went into the audience, and the audience fans were grabbing, hugging, touching, posing, and crowding around the main vocal lead, Mr. Russell...

I have seen Air Supply live 3 times in 90's. Not since maybe 1997, but man were they awesome everytime. I was lucky enough to have seen them in a tiny 1000 seat venue and I was close enough to touch them.

I have seen Air Supply live 3 times in 90's. Not since maybe 1997, but man were they awesome everytime. I was lucky enough to have seen them in a tiny 1000 seat venue and I was close enough to touch them.

This DVD is soooo not that experience. The friggin' lead vocals, both Graham and Russell, are LIP SYNCED (or overdubbed)!! I was astonished and kinda bummed out. it's not just a matter of bad video syncing either cuz the drums and instruments are dead on accurate.

Besides that horribly ridiculous fact, the video is substandard, full of MPEG artifacts, and the 5.1 mix is lame.

I can contrast this with a Charlotte Church Enchantment DVD I have that is simply pristine -- the video is crystal clear and the 5.1 is stellar. On Charlotte's DVD, the lead vocals come out of the center channel where they belong, the orchestra is beautifully placed, and the audience is all around you. This Air Supply DVD's 5.1 is barely distinguishable from stereo.

Does anyone know of any other Air Supply DVD's that are any good, cuz this one sure isn't? I also heard that there was another version of this exact same DVD that may be better, although I can't comprehend that.

This review is from: Air Supply: The Ultimate Performance (DVD)
I have to disagree with the previous reviewer. From watching their movements and listening carefully to the vocals, and watching how they match, I believe that they sang most of the songs except one. On that one song, the duo went into the audience, and the audience fans were grabbing, hugging, touching, posing, and crowding around the main vocal lead, Mr. Russell Hitchcock. Listening to that one song, Mr. Hitchcock's voice was dubbed for this DVD. Even on that one song, Mr. Graham Russell, the other partner, who strummed the guitar, sang some words, which sounded genuine and accurate to that song and concert.

On my DVD, only two of the three audio options worked, so that does need to improve.

It is a good concert. Don't expect them to sound the same as they did 30 years ago. When I watched the concert for the first time and skimmed through the popular songs, I wasn't too impressed either. But I watched the concert again in its entirety and I really enjoyed and loved the entertainment. So what if they are older now and not the same as when they were younger, you have to appreciate the concert that they can do now. Mr. Hitchcock does not or can not reach the previous high notes, but I think his voice sounds more mellow and a little deeper. Mr. Graham still has a sort of whispery voice. And the three other newer and younger band members are excellent, whether one is terrifically tickling the ivories, strongly strumming the bass, or powerfully banging the drums and clanging the cymbals.

Air Supply did do some previous concerts which I wish they would put on blu-ray.
