5.0 out of 5 stars Vintage Air Supply, June 11, 1999
By A Customer
This review is from: Air Supply (Audio CD)
I originally became aware of Air Supply when I heard this album back in the 80's. I wore out two cassette tapes and thought it impossible to get this album on CD. Thank goodness for Amazon.com. No one can sing "The Power of Love" like they do, not even Celine Dion. They have improved with age. I have seen them live in concert Baltimore each time they played here. Some of their music is sensual while others are perfect for whatever mood you are in. It lifts me when I need the lift and covers my tears when necessary. May God bless them and inspire them to more reflection music. If you enjoy this CD try "Now and Forever", The Vanishing Race" and "The Greatest Hits".

I too have been looking for this album, going on 10 years. I searched many other online music stores and struck out everywhere until I came here to Amazon.

5.0 out of 5 stars Some of their best, May 17, 1999
By A Customer
This review is from: Air Supply (Audio CD)
This is one of Air Supply's greatest and least known cd's. The harmonies on this album are the most sophisticated they have ever done. The version of "The Power of Love" on this album is better than any of the others, including Celine Dion. My personal favorite track is the inspiring "Great Pioneer". Any fan of Air Supply will love this CD.

4.0 out of 5 stars Holy Cow!!!, April 1, 2005
This review is from: Air Supply (Audio CD)
This album is absolutely amazing. I can't believe this once broke them up. It is an amazing album

1-Just as I am- Amazing rock song.Great, different side to Air Supply

2-Power of Love-Celine Dion can't come close to this version. Truly the best

3-Can't let Go- Awesome. Not much at the start, but it really climaxes in the middle.

4-After All-Oh man. Why wasn't this a single?It would've been #1

5-I Wanna Hold You Tonight- ahh, it's alright. A little too shaky for me.

6-Make it right- Could've done without this one. The chorus isn't very pleasing to hear.

7-When the Time is Right- They should've released this one as a single. Awesome melody. Almost tear-jerking. They should've called this on "OH Jane" instead of "When the Time is Right"

8-Sandy- Not the soft sappy love song I'd hoped for. Still pretty good though.

9-The Great Pioneer- I like Air Supply's love songs, so this one was kind of flat to me

10-Black and Blue-not a very good broken hearted song like I feel it should've been.Nice lyrics though

11-Sunset-Classic Graham

12-Never Fade Away- Just what I was hoping for . This has a soaring and very suspensful melody. This should've DEFINITLY been a single.

5.0 out of 5 stars One of the best if notthe best, November 8, 1999

I have searched for this for years and finally Amazon made it possible. Once again Air Supply finds a way to touch even the darkest of hearts. They continue to show their wide range of talents. I for one hope they continue for years to come.

4.0 out of 5 stars Arista Blew It!, November 12, 2003

With every band/artist that one likes there is always that one album that their label messed up on. Either the record label either released the wrong songs,or didn't release enough. (For the latter, see Ambrosia's 'One Eighty'.)

In the case of Air Supply, this is the one that their label, did not,I repeat, did not, release enough singles. Here is the list of songs (in addition to 'Just As I Am') that would have been hits:

After All (Powerful song)
I Wanna Hold You Tonight
When The Time Is Right
&
Never Fade Away

I would have given the album five stars, but,I just do not care for the song, 'Power of Love'. But,that's just me.
Do yourself a favor, and get this CD. It is one hell of a pop album!

(P.S.,If Air Supply were an up & coming new band, and this LP was released today...well,this thing would be HUGE!)

4.0 out of 5 stars great...mostly, April 6, 2005

The great songs are truly great. 'Sunset' is one of the best ballads EVER. 'Never fade away' is one of the most powerful songs by air supply, Russel's voice near the end as the song builds up is incredible. (Interesting it is the only song Graham sings lead on- why?)

'I can't let go', 'great pioneer' and 'just as i am' are also incredible songs.

Three tracks are a bit of filler- 'Sandy' just does not seem to gel well with air supply's style and 'I wanna hold you tonight' and 'make it right' are a bit tuneless and forgetful.

And why they didn't include 'crazy love' the B-side of 'just as I am' on the album is a complete mystery to me.

4.0 out of 5 stars Maybe it's real, only life is illusion., February 28, 2003
This review is from: Air Supply (Audio CD)
A great album from '85. Apparently, after they released this one, they started to lose fans. I don't know why... it's their best 80's album, and one of their best albums of all time. Anyway, here's a little about each song...

Just As I Am - Very upbeat, enjoyable song... Although I think I've heard it too many times, it's still a great song.
The Power Of Love - Very nice version, and much better than Celine's.
I Can't Let Go - Starts out a little shaky, but once you get into it, a very impressive power ballad.
After All - A little repetetive; this one was just filler, I think.
I Wanna Hold You Tonight - One of my favorites! Very well done.
Make It Right - Another of my favorites. A little harder than they usually do, but it's amazing.
When The Time Is Right - Starts out almost painfully sappy, but gets better about halfway into it.
Sandy - An okay song. This one was probably filler, too.
Great Pioneer - Very gung-ho, patriotic song. One of the better tracks on the CD.

Black And Blue - What's not to love? Great upbeat song.
Sunset - A little slow... a ballad, really. An okay song.
Never Fade Away - My other favorite on the CD. Great lyrics!

Amazon Verified Purchase(What's this?)
This review is from: Air Supply (Audio CD)
If you like Air Supply you should love this CD. Every song is a winner, a rare treat by any group. This CD includes some of their very best work. The songs are timeless ballads, as current today as they were when first released. The production is good. It's hard to find anything about this set that is worthy of criticsm.
