5.0 out of 5 stars I was skeptical at first

1.0 out of 5 stars Fumes from Plastic
I also got ill from the plastic fumes being emitted from the "emission free" Airfree P1000. I tried leaving it on for a couple of days to see if the fumes would burn off, but it's just as bad. After reading the review that someone else left it on for 2 weeks, and it was still emitting the fumes, I'm going to return it.

My brother-in-law who has a severe allergy to dogs has never been able to spend more than an hour or two at our house. Since we got our air purifier, he has been able to spend several hours at our house without any symptoms or discomfort. I'm a believer!

After plugging it in, this unit emitted a melted plastic odor which became worse after a few hours. It caused headache, sore throat, and peculiar taste in the mouth for the family members for whom it was purchased (varying ages). The blue plastic at the top was very hot to the touch. This purifier was purchased to improve air quality, not make it toxic. Amazon processed the return/refund promptly.

5.0 out of 5 stars Give it a chance, October 5, 2011
This review is from: AirFree P-1000 Air Sterilizer and Purifier Air Filter - Ionic free + Ozone Free (Kitchen)
If you read the description you would notice it seems to be nothing more than a ceramic heater with a nightlight. If you aren't sensitive to mold you won't notice any decrease in allergens. Bacteria and virus's are just an added bonus of the heat. If it used a fan the air would move too quickly through the chamber and there wouldn't be enough dwell time to kill the mold, bacteria, and virus's.
I have an extremely bad mold allergy and first came across this when I went to the hospital for surgery and they had one in every room. I noticed my allergies were much better but attributed it to the meds. When I left the hospital they all came back. I asked my surgeon if I could possibly borrow one of the units he has in his office and he agreed (Airpura P3000). It took about 3 weeks for me to notice a difference but IT DOES WORK. For comparisons sake I used it in my 35x18 bedroom, always keep the doors shut and I do use an air purifier so that might help move air though the unit. After returning his I bought 2 P1000's and put them on opposite sides of the room. Removing allergens is a 3 step process. Here is what we do.
Step 1 is to remove everything you can that causes allergies, dusty old throw rugs etc. Whatever you can't remove vacuum with a SEALED HEPA machine. We use a Miele S5 Callisto and it work's great even for dusting.
Step 2 is to purchase a SEALED Hepa air purifier that has Several POUNDS of carbon to remove VOC's. We've gone through tons and finally found a few that do what they say. It seems almost all manufacturers just sell features and not the ability to actually remove 99% or particulate like Hepa is stated to. The biggest problem I found was the air bypassed the filter either by lack of seals, poor design or cheap filters. Mainly to make it seem more efficient and get better ratings for moving more air... albeit dirty air. I bought a particulate meter and demo'd several machines. From my search these are what I tested and found to almost zero out the particle meter: IQair, Austin Air, Allerair, Airpura and Airgle. The quietest being the Airgle and loudest was a tie between the Austin and Allerair. I personally own an Airgle and IQair and would recommend either.
Step 3 is to get what slips through the air purifier. A purifier with even a strong UV-C light moves air way too fast to kill the mold, virus's and bacteria. Here is where the Airfree comes in. It might be slow but it has to be. This machine does work but it takes time. If your room is near the max size I recommend getting 2 and putting them on opposite sides, overkill is better than undersized.
I hope my experiences help someone else. We sure wasted a lot of money over the years and found that there is no magic machine. Complete allergen removal requires good housekeeping and multiple quality machines. Good machines are expensive but aren't the health and well being of you and your worth any amount?

5.0 out of 5 stars IT WORKS (Owner of an Airfree P1000 and a RabbitAir BioGS), January 17, 2009

This review is from: AirFree P-1000 Air Sterilizer and Purifier Air Filter - Ionic free + Ozone Free (Kitchen)
I make about 10 to 20 purchases on Amazon every month - both for personal and business uses - but I almost never review the products I buy. However, I thought I should write one for the Airfree P1000 because it really is a great product that deserves a little of my time and effort.

We own an Airfree P1000 and a RabbitAir BioGS. We put the Airfree P1000 in our bedroom because it's silent and serves as a nightlight for me; I am night blind. The light is adjustable so I can keep it dim and not disturb my husband. We don't always get to open our bedroom window because it is right by our neighbor's patio where she keeps one of her dogs and she is not always home to clean up after the dog right after it goes.

Also, we have two cats and a dog so it's impossible to have the bedroom smelling fresh. However, the P1000 was able to completely freshen-up the bedroom in just a couple of hours. It even removed the scent coming from the plug-in air freshener. And being inexpensive and virtually maintenance free are definitely additional pluses. I am extremely pleased with the Airfree P1000.

This machine successfully removed the aspergillis mold from my room. I have serious lung disease and am highly allergic to mold- i did a mold test before and after having it in place for 1 week- and it worked wonders- mold was gone! i haven't even explored what other benefits it has, ie smells etc- i'm so happy with this result. I highly recommend this for anyone with allergies or lung problems.

1.0 out of 5 stars Works great for a while, October 8, 2010
This review is from: AirFree P-1000 Air Sterilizer and Purifier Air Filter - Ionic free + Ozone Free (Kitchen)
When I plugged it in, I could smell the difference right away. The room was cleaner, the air was fresher. It stopped working after 6 mos. I paid to ship it back to have it repaired. Instead, the clearing house replaced it with one that was in pieces. I returned that and got a third one that did not work. What good is a warranty when the item keeps breaking and you have to pay to send it to be fixed? I was hoping that no moving parts would mean that it would last longer. Don't buy this unless you can replace it with one that works every time it conks out. What a shame, because it worked so well to begin with. I I finally had to give up.

Never noticed a difference whatsoever, other than the plastic fumes. Maybe it really works well, and maybe its just in your head.

4.0 out of 5 stars Really works well but will clog your inferior Vacuum Cleaners, September 25, 2011
This review is from: AirFree P-1000 Air Sterilizer and Purifier Air Filter - Ionic free + Ozone Free (Kitchen)
This item really works well at purifying & sterilizing the air. But unless you have Dyson Radial Root Cyclone Vacuum or at least Dyson Root Cyclone Vacuum or equivalent, don't buy this Air Sterilizer.

This item sterilize the air through incinerating the contaminants in it's thermal ceramic core. And when you incinerate something, it becomes ash. Ash is a very fine small powdery substance that will clog all vacuum cleaners, except for the root cyclone vacuum cleaners. And even the root cyclone vacuum will let 1% of the ash through the Root Cyclone filtering system. The only system that can really handle this really well is the Radial Root Cyclone Vacuum by Dyson.

And if the Ash clog your vacuum cleaners, then the vacuum cleaners will not be able to pick up a large percentage of the small particulates in the carpet and will just kick it around, spreading it through the air where you will breath it.

The Radial Root Cyclone & Root Cyclone by Dyson is very expensive. Fortunately the Root Cyclone Techonology patent has expire and you can buy the same technology from hoover such as Hoover Windtunnel Max Multi-Cyclonic Bagless Upright Vacuum - UH70600 & other manufacturer at lower price than dyson, but still cost more than average.

I would have given this item 5 stars except for the Ash problem clogging the Vacuum Cleaners.

3.0 out of 5 stars Way too bright, November 8, 2010
Amazon Verified Purchase(What's this?)
This review is from: AirFree P-1000 Air Sterilizer and Purifier Air Filter - Ionic free + Ozone Free (Kitchen)
I bought this for the bedroom to help with my asthma and allergies. I thought I had read that the light was able to be turned off. Not sure where I read that, because I can't find that now and it isn't able to be turned off. It's very bright and lights the entire bedroom with a blue glow. I need to return it, break the LEDs inside, or put it in a different room and buy another purifier for the bedroom. If I wanted a night light, I would have bought one. I don't want my purifier to be a lamp.

As far as the purifier functionality, it's great. If I had bought this for another room, I would have been very happy. The air smells fresher and I have fewer problems while sleeping. It's also silent and maintenance free. That's the why I haven't returned it and lived with the obnoxious glow it has. At least they chose a not so bad color. The blue is almost decent.
