This review is from: Airborne (Audio CD)
Out of all of the albums produced by the ex-Limp coterie, this is the best one I've heard. After many listens, I have yet to tire of a single track. I love the work of Syntaks --including Golden Sun, his collaboration with Manual--, and I think the prolific Manual is an excellent musician sometimes caught in a formula. Granted Rasmussen and to a lesser degree, Skott have not been as prolific as Munk. But Airborne stands alone as the most underrated and best of all of the releases I've heard from the three musicians. My favorite works of the ever productive Munk are his tracks on Golden Sun. But that excellent album still does not rate Aerosol's lone long player. Along with Limp's brilliant Orion, Airborne lacks any form of saccharine melancholy in its unique form of bliss-out; it is just very unique compared to the others. There is somewhat more emphasis on breakbeats --like Boards of Canada, but more understated and compact. The utopian melodies build and fall into consciousness, and if they don't end they segue organically into the next reams of textured soundscape. It's all a matter of taste, but I always feel a sense of gravity disguised as effortlessness here. more music reviewer lingo available upon request.
