I'm a 48yo male with young children that bring home colds all the time. I experimented with zicam and airborne. My cold pattern goes like this - starts with my throat, then nasal, then ear and chest (cough). Whenever I use the airborne immediately upon the first symtom (throat tickles or mildly sore), the cold has never escalated. My dosage is 2 per day. One at first sign, then one in morning and one at night until throat iritation goes away (3 days). When I'm out of airborne, I get sick - real sore throat then nasal. Once I get sick, airborne does not work for me. I then use zicam. Zicam is harsh on my nose but so far (1 yr), I've never had a cold escalate to my chest, i.e. no coughing. Before, the cough could last up to 2 months. So I'm happy with this combination. I also take airborne when I'm going to a place where there is a lot of sick people coughing all over the place (i.e. the fitness center). So far, that has worked well. About zicam. For me, it never worked as a preventitive. But once I got sick, it stopped the cold from escalting. Hope this review helps someone.

I first began using airborne in early October right after I was the unhappy recipient of the worst cold I'd had in years. My husband caught it from me and our teenage son caught it from him (we really know how to share). :) I began feeling the *tingle* in the back of my nose and throat again and knew I was on the road to illness. My friend told me about this product and I figured I'd give it a shot. Her mother works in daycare and the workers there get everything the children bring in. The owner of the daycare invested in this product for her employees and there has not been a call off due to illness in over four months! After two doses, I no longer felt the dread - I felt great! During the winter months, it seems that no matter what we do, our son catches everything under the sun. He's been taking Airborne at the first symptoms of a cold, along with my husband and I, and we have all been cold free since October! This product is a true gift!

August 20, 2005 UPDATE: Almost a year and still no colds - for all of my family members. Our son is usually battling colds all winter and this year he had 100% school attendence. People in my office began using Airborne as well and for those who follow the directions and take when you get those FIRST SIGNS of a cold, they have remained healthy and cold free as well.

I knew I was going to get their bad cold. but I remembered I had heard about Airborne. SO I bought some and tried it!
It worked! I didn't get sick! I started to get sick.. but them I started to take this and I got all better!
The taste was not bad. I was going to drink fast and just deal with the taste but didn't have to. I really liked it! It worked for my husband as well! It is a bit of $$ but worth it! I have bought more and will keep buying it!

I love this product! I honestly believe that it's helped me fight off at least two colds this season. As soon as you feel that scratchy throat, itchy eyes, or sniffly nose...you just plop one tablet into a cup of water, let fizz for a minute, then drink. Repeat every three hours or so until the symptoms go away. It tastes pretty good too; something like an orange seltzer. And I swear, the stuff works! I also really like Zicam, but prefer this effervescent formula over Zicam's nasal gel. Try this, and see why stores can't keep it on the shelves!

I heard about this from a teacher who used it and swore by it.
I started taking it when I was traveling on planes for work . It saved me so many times... I usually take one every three hours when I fly and whenever I feel a cold coming on. I went from fighting every cold off to not having to worry about it.
A drawback is that it isn't the cheapest prevention out there but it is cheaper then getting sick. I heard that the lemon/lime is a great flavor but I have never tried it.

I remember the feeling of certain doom when my throat would get just scratchy enough that I knew I'd be down for a week. And I knew I was 90% there when I heard enough coughing in class or in the office.

Now I take airborne, only when I have reason to (travel, sick family member, onset of symptoms), and it really does work. I can survive a long plane flight into a New England winter, concluding with an hour long taxi journey, with a driver experiencing significant and contagious respiratory distress -- and walk away healthy. I've sometimes been unable to get more Airborne until having come down with a cold, and it still mitigates the severity and duration of the symptoms.

I find it most effective in combination with Zicam products (the gel in particular). The instructions say to dissolve Airborne in water; I prefer it dissolved in apple juice.

I still believe that stress is a dominant risk factor regarding colds (with sleep, diet, and climate close behind), and you can't choose not to give your body the rest it demands because you can take Airborne. However, when you are doing the best you can, Airborne does seem to really make the difference between catching a bad cold and just needing to take it easy for a day.

I have been using Airborne now for 2 years and it really works, I usually take it when someone at work has a cold, or when I am feeling like if a cold is coming... Best way to use it is the day you feel you have a cold, take 1 every 3 hours that day and I guarantee, GUARANTEE that you will NOT have a cold the next day. I take it with hot water, i just think it absorbs it better that way.

I am a registered nurse and instruct adult nursing students on a high school campus. My 100+ students are under tremendous stress that decreases their immune systems, making them susceptible to the cesspool of germs in their surroundings. A day doesn't go by that I don't have some student sneezing, coughing, or blowing their nose. They must keep up with required attendance, which motivates them to come to school when they should really be home. I've started using Airborne at the first sign of a sniffle, or that subtle head congestion indicating more to come. I honestly feel I've avoided at least two colds over the last few weeks, alone, by using Airborne. I won't be without this product again! These people might just have found how to prevent the common cold!

Seeing other people mention Zicam I feel compelled to mention there are many lawsuits now alleging it can destroy your sense of smell. In particular, the Zicam gel. Maybe you want to read up on this yourself before deciding whether to use it.

And now for my review of Airborne. I'm giving it 5 stars because it does seem to do something. But it could just be my imagination? Before I heard of Airborne last week I would take an antihistamine at the first sign of getting a cold and that seemed to have the same effect (actually I did that this time as well, oops).

It would be nice to see a few double-blind studies done. It's so popular it's a little surprising there are none already.

This is the first product that actually delivers on its promise -- it stops your cold in its tracks before it gets to be a full blown pain. I have avoided at least a dozen bouts with this great product and won't let my supply deplete when it's low. Just take one tablet dissolved completely in a small glass of cold water, and repeat a few times in one day. You will notice the difference right away! You MUST take it at the very first sign of the sniffles, even if it's a sneeze and tickle in your throat, don't wait. Take the tablets for one full day to allow them to really do the trick; pretty much you'll be guaranteed to rid yourself of the oncoming cold. The taste is great too -- just like orange TANG. The lemon/lime one doesn't appeal to me because it reminded me of Alka Seltzer, so I stick to the original flavor. The easy to carry cylinder makes it an easy item to carry with you during the day. A must have in your medicine chest!
