Not what I had hoped,

This review is from: Aircraft Command Techniques: Gaining Leadership Skills to Fly the Left Seat (Paperback)
For the price, this book is very thin. It is not a training manual or even a guide. It seems to be written by an older pilot looking back over his career. I was looking for a book with more guidance. If you order this book you will be very surprised at how little it contains. It is more of a personal journey memoir. I have read and would strongly reccommend reading books by Barry Schiff - they seem to have more practical information and direction. I bought this book for my son and will be returning it.

I am a senior flight student at a university and had to purchase this book for a class. Though I do not work in an airline, I found the book gave very practical, useful advice throughout. The book gave clear discussion of a number of pertinent topics including judgment skills, pilot responsibilities, CRM, communication, and human error. Many chapters include interesting accounts of real incidents or accidents that tie in well to the topic. Each chapter ends with a short scenario that ties in with the chapter topic and a short discussion of some options that I found really made me think about the topic.
Overall, I really liked the book and found it to be an easy read. I recommend it to aspiring captains and even those who just want to know more about a multi-crew cockpit.

Nice Read - Not As Described,

I have read the other two reviews and only agree with the first reviewer. I have been flying for 28 years as both a recreational pilot and a professional commercial airline pilot. I expected this book to be a guide and full of practical advise for my son who is in the middle of his career as a pilot. It is not. It is seriously over priced and over hyped. I agree there are much better books out there for advice and instruction. Do yourself a favor and try to get this from the library if you want to read it, do not spend the money.

The book is titled "Aircraft Command Techniques" and is just that! I really enjoyed this book and highly recommend its reading to any Pilot that's been newly upgraded to Captain, or will upgrade soon. Sal gives you informative techniques that really make you think about your job as an Airline Captain. I've been a Captain for over 2 years now and still found it very interesting reading. Pilots know that you are always learning, up until the day you retire, and I found over 15 great hints and techniques that I will apply to my everyday flying. Thanks Sal for some great reading!
