Good Introduction To Aircraft Rescue And Fire Fighting,
This review is from: Aircraft Rescue and Fire Fighting (4th Ed) (Paperback)
This text, prepared by the International Fire Service Training Association (IFSTA), is a good introduction to aircraft (and airport) rescue and fire fighting. The book is easy to comprehend, yet is fairly detailed. There is a lot of good information on aircraft-specific fire fighting skills, as well as other relevant sections on issues like airport familiarization (lighting, markings, grid maps, etc.) and aircraft familiarization (engines, electrical systems, composite hazards, etc.)The book is very strong in dealing with situational awareness issues (e.g. topography and terrain hazards, wind direction, hazardous goods), and is especially good at dealing with different types of apparatus and extinguishing agents (Aqueous Film Forming Foam, Regular Protein Foam, Film Forming Fluroprotein Foam, Purple K, etc.) and their application devices and method (aspirating versus nonaspirating nozzles, portable form proportioners, etc.) Basic skills and assessment techniques are strongly reinforced, and the place of fire fighters in Airport Emergency Plans is thoroughly explained. The book tends to be a bit repetitive and occasionally tedious, but for someone with interest in aircraft rescue and fire fighting, this is an indispensable text.
