Product Details

Product Description

Detailed 1/72 scale assembly model kit of the Dornier Do 217, a World War II era twin-engine bomber of the German Luftwaffe. Do 217 was the upgraded and more powerful version of its predecessor the Dornier Do 17 "Flying Pencil". This Airfix 1/72 scale assembly kit depicts a fictional scenario involving a Do 217 and a Messerschmitt Me 328 specially fitted to perform a "Mistel" ("Mistletoe") Mission. Mistel scheme involved attaching a medium bomber (usually a Ju 88 variant) specially fitted with an immense shaped charge fitted in its nose compartment to a fighter aircraft (usually an Fw 190 variant). During a Mistel Mission, the piloted fighter aircraft, which is mounted on top of the bomber, guide the bomber to the intended target and release its payload as one massive flying bomb. Mistel missions involving a Do 217 were planned by the Luftwaffe but never carried out.
