This is what 'reality' TV should be.,
By
This review is from: Airline - The Complete Season 1 (DVD)
Very few 'reality' TV shows are very realistic at all; they're staged, scripted and sliced/diced in the editing room to create dramatic stories that probably bear little resemblence to the 'real' events that actually transpired.
Not so with "Airline", the pseudo-documentary program on A&E (and now on DVD) that chronicles in 30-minute episodes the various trials and tribulations a handful of Southwest Airlines employees go through while trying to get a sometimes insane public to and from their destinations. The sad part of this, and if you travel frequently you've probably witnessed it yourself so many times, is the fact that so many people in this country are just plain scary in their aggressive ignorance of the world around them, the law and their responsibilities and etiquette associated with travel. Among the most frightening examples: 1. The passengers who demand that it is their God-given right to board a plane whether or not they're too drunk to stand up 2. The MANY passengers throughout the 18 episodes who, given the SLIGHTEST inconvenience, threaten to sue everyone in sight 3. The many passengers who show up to the airport only minutes before scheduled departure and then scream and yell when told that it's not the airline's fault that they are going to miss their flight(s) I am not a regular Southwest passenger because I don't enjoy the cattle car mentality of being herded on and off a plane, and also because the times I have flown them, the passengers have been as bad or worse as the ones shown on this show. However, I am impressed by the ability and the mindset of its staff in handling the various sticky situations they encounter, and can better understand how they have managed to stay profitable in a (pardon the pun) turbulent competitive environment both before and after 9/11.

I had never seen or even heard of this show until I somehow stumbled upon it on Amazon. After readin the above reviews, I decided that I would get it. Boy, what a great investment! Not only do I thoroughly enjoy the show, laughing so often and intrigued when I am not laughing, I am now more inclined to fly Southwest (although I do so already most of the time I do fly). Not only is it entertaining, but it is also knowledgeable in certain aspects. For those looking to go into airline customer service, being a flight attendant, or another career in the airline industry, the jobs are fully explained in the show. My only question: Is there a season 2 coming out?

This is definitely one of the most entertaining shows on TV! Just when you didn't think the world could be any wackier, you enter into the world of Airline. It's cheap, and the only downfall is that it doesn't include the original theme song, but the show is so good, that you look waaay past that. I recommend it to everyone.

I laughed through most of these episodes, yet was really touched by how well Southwest employees treat their customers--even the nasty ones. These guys go above and beyond the call of duty--kudos to the guy who changed an elderly man's soiled pants and to the employees who provided the opportunity to wash and clean clothes to another man who smelled too terrible to board the plane.

This is a great show that i would recommend to all airplane, airline, and airport buffs, or to anyone who wants a backstage look at what managers and gate agents do daily.

I hope the remaining seasons are released soon! It's great to watch these dingy people (customers) get mad at Southwest for things beyond their control, such as security. I wonder if these people realize how stupid they look. Anyway, this is real life at its best. If you've never seen Airline, BUY IT TODAY!

As a retail manager, I am forced to deal everyday with the generally inconsiderate and irrational public. Whenever I have a bad day at work, this show always puts me in a better mood because its obvious I'm not the only one that has to deal with this. This is reality TV at its most real, and people should pay more attention to the actions displayed on the show-- odds are they've had a rude reaction like that sometime before.

I can't help but laugh at the passengers constantly putting themselves in bad situations. I do feel for the passengers who find themselves in a bind at no fault of their own but lashing out at the staff doesn't get you anyhwere. Can't wait for seasons 2 and 3 on DVD!!!
