Love this read! This author does such a great job of character development the reader may forget they are fictional characters. This is something that really draws me into a good story. I live in the Kansas City area and also appreciate the details of the area. You can really get a feel for Midwestern living at the time. This story delves into traumatic life events and how people respond. The details of their feelings and their response to these feelings are troubling. I found myself becoming emotionally involved in the story as well. I look forward to the sequel!!

I bought this book after reading the author's previous book "The Palisides" (also a great read). The story was character-driven and the characters were real, facing real problems. What I loved most about the book was that they were all going through something difficult -- stuff that was very relatable and identifiable. How their paths and stories intertwined is what makes this book so special. Read it... you won't regret it. And check out The Palisades as well.

This is an amazing read. Right from the first page, you will be drawn into the lives and minds of the characters the inhabit this thoughtful, well-developed novel. Just as he did in his previous novel, The Palisades, Mr. Schabarum creates characters that are so real-to-life it's as if you might know them. Or might be them. The people in this book all carry a scar of a life not ideal. It's these scars, these flaws, that make them so very relatable. You will want to know what happens to these people. You will find it hard to put this book down. When it's over, you will feel a sense of loss that you no longer have a view into their lives. I don't often recommend books. But this one is a gem.

This was the first novel that I read by this author. I enjoyed it very much and could not turn off my Kindle. It dealt with real life issues and kept my interest peaked the entire time. There was so much detail in the descriptions of the towns and people that it made me feel like I was there. I really loved where he mentioned that it was a Garrard turntable because I worked for this company on Long Island 25 years ago. Read the book. You will love it.
