About the Author

Robert Beck (1918-1992), aka Iceberg Slim, is the best known pimp of all time. He grew up in the mean streets of Southside Chicago where he became involved in the underworld that was to shape his life. He eventually left the pimping game after his third stretch in jail and began to write. He wrote seven books, all published by Canongate, the most famous of which is his autobiography Pimp. --This text refers to an out of print or unavailable edition of this title.

I'm still reading "Airtight Willie & Me" [1985] and am enjoying every gripping word . I was turned-onto Iceberg Slim [ t.n. , Robert Beck ] via Ice T and Ice Cube and their works ; how-ever , it wasn't until recently that I was able to find any of Slim's writings .
Slim's writing style is , simply put , gorgeous ! One can ascertain by his vocabulary that Slim was an intelligent man ; that even a "big worded" person like my-self is reaching for the thesauraus every now-and-again .

Slim builds-up characters' stories and actions in such exquisite verbosity , then proceedes to execute charater-assassination with such jarring results . I found my-self rooting for the characters' attempts at resolving their lifestyles ( how-ever morally "right" or "wrong" their attempts ) time-and-again , in each-and-every chapter .

I highly recommend "Airtight Willie & Me" , especially to those of you whom fancy your-self a fan of Burroughs' works !

Iceberg is one of the best writer/author for African-American population. Read the book "That Bitch Called Life, and see how my favorite author/writer P.Los plays the game of grit and guts.

Another introspective classic from the O.G himself; Iceberg Slim. If you were wondering what street life was like back in the day. Be sure to peel these pimp pages. Chuuuch!

I purchased this book to replace a 70's era copy I once owned. Perfunctory examination reveals very little deviation from the original text. This is an excellent read for any serious student of Black urban literature. Robert Beck is quite an elegant poet and wordsmith.
