4.0 out of 5 stars VERY comfortable headphone
While these aren't the "hands down best sounding headphone" I've ever had the pleasure of listening to, they are VERY comfortable and they sound quite good, even attached to my laptop. Yes, I must confess that I bought these mostly for something to use at work that "wasn't too expensive" yet "listenable" - plus, my past experiences with Aiwa have, overall, been good.

3.0 out of 5 stars Comfortable yes...but heavy
These headphones are quite comfortable. The cord is very long, like three times longer than what I need. However the only thing I do not like about these headphones are they are rather heavy. After wearing them for only a short while, my neck begins to hurt and I get a headache. I need to try and make them not put so much pressure on my head when they are worn. Other...

I can wear these for a few hours and not really notice them or be too uncomfortable - they're light, the cord's nice and long and very pliable, and they fit well enough to stay on yet aren't so encroaching as to make you want to take them off "to let your head or ears breathe," if you know what I mean.

These certainly aren't audiophile level, but for the price, they are very, very good in my opinion. Now to finish constructing a decent headphone amplifier to "open them up" a bit more...

4.0 out of 5 stars A poor man's Sony MDR-F1, June 24, 2010

I would have like to have gotten the Sony MDR-F1 open-air headphones, but they were to expensive (approx. $300.00). The Aiwa HP-AK100 shares some of the MDR-F1 features such as: open earcups, angled drivers, and comfort. I like the extra long cord, since I only use these for watching movies. I plug them into my Pioneer TRE-D800 Dolby Digital Wireless Transmitter and enjoy a good 5.1 surround effect via Dolby Headphone processing.

After wearing them for only a short while, my neck begins to hurt and I get a headache. I need to try and make them not put so much pressure on my head when they are worn. Other than that, they produce very nice sound, and do not crush my ears at all.

There are literally thousands of headphones out there that will block out all sorts of external noise.

An odd request, but I was looking for headphones that did just the opposite - I need to hear what's going on around me (if someone calls my name, or mentions a project that I'm working on), but I also want to listen to music!

Besides the *expensive* Sony MDR-F1 speakers, which these are loosely based on (my guess), these are the only headphones that I could find that make an effort to open the backs completely.

The sound quality is great for the price, and size of the driver (50mm!).

If youre needs are as specific as mine, get these things!

These phones are one of the best looking phones on the market, even though it is just all plastic. Construction quality was good though one cushion was sewed differently than the other but what can you expect for [inexpensive]headphones.I bought it due to one magazine saying it sounded very good, but I found it not "airy" sounding at all, especially in the bass due to it's open back. It sounded pretty plain, like any other cheap headphone but I'm no headphone expert and I haven't listened to other phones very much to compare. I did have a KOSS ESP-950 and if I recall the one song I compared it with, I wasn't drawn into it like I remember where I wanted to listen to it over and over. That's when I think I changed my mind. Maybe you might find it different as all our musical taste and ears differ. At a [$$$] dollar level it might sound a tad better than the rest at that level, if not, it's at least one good-looking headphone.
