5.0 out of 5 stars Great Sound in a Small Package
I just bought this system for my mother. She wanted something small that sounded good and could hold 3 CD's. This system also has 2 cassette decks. There are 3 programmed EQ settings from which to choose depending on the style of music you listen to. The display is colorful with lots of moving bar graphs and other information. I just bought this system for my mother. She wanted something small that sounded good and could hold 3 CD's. This system also has 2 cassette decks. There are 3 programmed EQ settings from which to choose depending on the style of music you listen to. The display is colorful with lots of moving bar graphs and other information. The unit is very nice-looking and has a high-quality, sturdy feel to it. The real beauty of the system is it's dual-powered subwoofers. Each one get's a dedicated 35 watts leaving a more-than-ample 15 watts per channel for the mid-high range drivers for a sytem total of 100 watts. It sounds great at moderate levels with very clean, deep bass and only suffers at very high levels from distortion due to extreme woofer excursions. It even has outputs for surround speakers. For the size, price, and features of the system it's pretty hard to beat!

4.0 out of 5 stars Fills the bill, January 2, 2000
This review is from: Aiwa NSX-A555 Compact Stereo System (Electronics)
I work at a remote site which provides housing for me every weekend. I needed a small sound system to play CDs and radio, and especially to boost a pitifully small (by today's standards) 13" TV so I would at least THINK I was enjoying it! This system fills the room with sound, and fits into a large nightstand cabinet. I found hookup to be very easy, especially considering that the speakers have two pairs of leads apiece (one pair for the high/midrange component and one pair for the built-in subwoofer). The sound is awesomely solid -- and the three pre-set EQs can tailor most styles of music. Aiwa makes almost no mention of the surround speakers (a single mention in the manual, buried halfway down one page; nothing on the shipping box). I hooked up a pair of small A/V speakers and found that, from the video source, I was getting true surround signals when they were present. My points off are for the cassette decks -- though CDs can be auto-programmed to fit a cassette, it would be very helpful if the recording deck included auto-reverse. But for the price, it's a versatile system that can also double as an alarm clock. It does what I need -- and it makes watching videos on that 13" TV enjoyable!

5.0 out of 5 stars Excellent Sound from a Compact System, January 27, 2009

The sound from this compact system is really amazing considering it's size and convenience. If you're not yet ready to spend $500+ on a component system and you want to listen to music without sacrificing quality - this is one great system. CD/Tape/Radio all have been workign flawlessly for me for over 5 years. The remote is also working fine. I can't say enough about this system and about AIWA - I'm a big fan!
