Aiwa's Front Surround design lets the unit render huge, spacious sound. The unit offers two upward-firing speakers in addition to the two normal front-facing stereo speakers. Because the sound from the additional speakers is reflected and just slightly delayed before reaching your ears, you get an impressive surround-sound effect with enhanced presence and depth.
In addition, the XP-SP920UAB3's Super T-Bass delivers surprisingly deep and powerful bass sound without the boominess that characterizes systems with less sophisticated low-frequency enhancement circuits. That's because Super T-Bass was specifically engineered to improve the low-end performance of small speakers, taking into account their particular resonance characteristics.
Q Surround circuitry lets you experience surround sound using just two speakers. Using unique signal processing algorithms based on advanced psychoacoustics, Q Surround creates a phantom center channel, expands the front left and right stereo sound fields, and places virtual surround speakers around you to simulate the effect of a multichannel system. Aiwa portable stereos with Q Surround can thus deliver a rich, all-encompassing sound field that recreates the "you are there" experience as no conventional compact two-speaker system can.
The XP-SP920UAB3's convenience features include an innovative neckband headphone design that securely holds the earpieces in place, three-point indicators that tell you at a glance how much battery power you have left, and a stopwatch function with 10-lap memory.
This unit also incorporates equalization circuitry with preprogrammed settings (classical, pop/rock, and jazz) that you can quickly and easily select to keep your music sounding the best.

I got this player as a gift for Christmas, and I have to say that I have been more than satisfied with the results. The skip protection is the best I have seen. I am a heavy jogger, and I didn't get one skip for 3.5 miles. I was impressed. I like the music loud also, amd it provides ample volume for me. I have had all burnt CDs play in it, even those burnt on 1st generation CD burners. The battery life is good and the design is very nice. Best portable CD player I have ever used!

The previous two reviews hilight two of my main issues.1)The headphone jack is horrible!!! At first, I thought I got a faulty player; I sent it back and was sent a new one. The new player has the same headphone jack short. So, I'm assuming there is a very bad batch of these players floating around. The headphones are good quality considering what other players ship with these days. And, outside of constantly hearing the shorting out of the headphone jack, the overall sound quality is really good. All in all, I'd recommend Panasonic personal player products over Aiwa. Usually, Panasonic is what've I've owned in the past and always been very very pleased. I tried Aiwa because I thought personal player products were their specialty and that they would provide a superior product. Not so in this case.

This is the first portable cd player I was actually willing to spend some money on since I've started college. The first day I listened to it, I already had problems with the lock mechanism staying locked. Also, I thought I had a faulty headphone jack because it kept shorting out, but my friend also bought one too and her headphone jack was not in very good working condition too. I was willing to overlook the problems, and a few days later, I was very upset at the fact that the cd player would not play anything. It would not get off the hold mechanism. I thought maybe it was the batteries and it wasn't. Now, I haven't been able to play anything on it for a week and I'm going to send it back. Every time I press any button, "hold" flashes on the screen even though it is not on hold. I never dropped it and always took good care of it--it just must be of very poor quality.I definitely recommend NOT buying this item. Aiwa is not a good brand and I know I'll never purchase anything under that brand name again.
