Product Description

Amazon.com Product Description

Designed for use with Digital Audio Workstations (DAW), sequencing, and other software applications, the Akai MPD24 USB/MIDI pad controller enables you to program drum parts in a much more intuitive and natural way than by simply playing them on a keyboard. With its array of knobs and sliders, the MPD24 allows you to control parameters on your favorite DAW or software synths, offering incredible real-time control.

A great choice for DJs, programmers, producers, and others musicians, the MPD24 offers a bank of 16 velocity and pressure-sensitive MPC pads, and you can access four different banks of sounds from the MPC pads for a total of 64 sounds at your fingertips.

The MPD24 also borrows the MPC series' assignable Q-Link controllers, enabling you to control nearly any parameters in your software in real time. You get six assignable Q-Link faders and eight assignable Q-Link 360-degree knobs so you'll spend less time with the mouse and more time making music. The MPD24 also gives you a dedicated set of transport controls for instant access to the most commonly used DAW or sequencing-software controls.

The MPD24 sends MIDI information over its plug-and-play USB interface so you can use it with your Mac or PC without installing any drivers. The USB connection even powers the MPD24 so the included USB cable is all you need. It comes with a custom version of FXpansion's BFD Lite drum-studio software so you can start creating right out of the box. In addition to BFD Lite and nearly any other MIDI software, you can also drive any MIDI hardware, such as synths, sound modules, samplers, sequencers, drum machines, and more.

The MPD24 is a fully programmable production and performance instrument with the feel of an MPC's controls and the ease of MIDI over USB.

5.0 out of 5 stars Why isn't everything as simple and awesome as this?, November 8, 2007

I just love this product. I have made so much music with it. I just love the mpc style pads. I don't understand why keyboard manufactures don't use the sensitive pad system. It just feels like how an instrument should be controlled. I have a midi key board and the only reason I use it to get at more notes. This pad set up lets you pound out rhythm lines just like you would on a bass or guitar. Ones you figure out the cro matic scale set up. I want a giant one of these with like 64 keys.
I am going to sell my mpc1000 because with the mpd24 I get the sensitivity of the mpc pad but the ease of control of my computers sequencer. Mpc software is so 1990 to me.
I just adjust the swing in the sequencer on my computer and Bam! I have an mpc!

Oh and writing drum loops is just so easy with this unit.

4.0 out of 5 stars Awesome little pad, May 15, 2009
This review is from: Akai MPD 24 USB/Midi MPC Pad Controller (Electronics)
First off I will say I don't use the software at all. I run it through Pro Logic 8 on my Mac so it's basically a controller cause I have no use for the included software. With assignable knobs and sliders you pretty much have control over anything you could want. I use it more for synth than I thought I would. And of course for programing drum beats it's phenomenal. The controller allows you to adjust the sensitivity and pressure curve so you can customize it to your playing style which makes it incredible. I paid $150 used at a Guitar Center and it has been one of the best investments I've made. I hardly use my keyboard. It has USB input and a MIDI in/out so you can run either (though I recommend the USB cause it's self powered which doesn't use up another plug and you get more options through your DAW, not to mention this allows you to run an additional MIDI device through the MIDI in/out) All that being said, I only have one problem with this: Would it be too much to ask for a power switch?? Having to unplug and plug this thing in when not in use is annoying, but I guess you can't have it all.

I got the last one on here and it is totally Rad. Super sweet refurb deal and the unit works really well. You have to strike the pads kinda hard (hard for me anyway) but thats not really a complaint. Everything works! Use it for an impluse kit in ableton as well as a mixer for traktor.
