4.0 out of 5 stars AKAI 42 INCH PLASMA MONITOR
Interesting post from another. Since buying mine over four years ago and moving 4 times I have not had any problems with it. Thing is it is a MONITOR NOT A TV.. I watch HD TV with no problems. The one problem I am having is finding another remote due to my girlfriends mutt chewing it up.
I have also run it on generator power and again no problems.

I've had this unit since 2004 and can tell you personally that it's a bad investment. Plasma TV's can't be tilted more than 5 degrees one way or the other. If you do, they burn out pixels. This means that you have to build a special box to transport or store the unit should you ever need to move it. Moving companies charge $700 for this service. I built my own (3/4"...

The contradiction on the other poster is this? If you lose pixels by moving it as claimed? Then how was it ever shipped in the cardboard box and get to the store and then to your house and still work? The power supply also has nothing due to it being moved..
This monitor has done fine as a TV with the digital HD box and I also have a computer hooked to it as a multimedia PC - movies; games and more...

I built my own (3/4" plywood, styrofoam inserts, six castors, hinged top with lock) for $150. Once it's on the wall the picture is beautiful - that is until the power supply goes down. Which it does often. Sometimes coming back on its own a few days to a few weeks later - or for me now, not at all. The power supply replacement repair works like this; pick-up by a tech at $50 and diagnostic at $89. The unit replacement cost at $790 with an additional labor cost at $510 for a grand total of $1439. Now if you paid $3600 for this in 2004 that may sound like a good deal. If you want to buy a better, higher quality Phillips or Visio LCD unit at Sams, Target or Amazon for around $1000, you begin to realize what a bad investment this really is. Oh and by the way, Akai has NO customer service. Just Google Akai repair complaints and you'll see what I mean.
