Customer Reviews

I would recommend just buying the MP3 album, or even the CD.

Matis in my opinion is a stronger more grounded musician/artist because of the transitions and leaps he's taken in his music career.

Sick for So Long: A very long, great sounding song, with some Hebrew mixed in, but with a great chorus, and a great feel to it.

I'm usually hesitant to review albums the first day I hear them, but I'll make an exception here. This is mostly due to the fact it takes awhile to truly absorb new albums, especially from artists like this one. Having already heard Reservoir, Watch the Walls Melt Down, Confidence, Broken Car, and Hard Way, I'm going to say that this album is definitely worth buying after hearing the rest of the tracks today. It is a totally original album, completely new styles, with a couple of songs that mesh with the old style. A lot of really catchy songs, a lot of really awesome songs. It's hard to truly put into words what this album means to me already. As one of my favorite artists, he truly has reinvented himself again, with great diversity of sound.

So far, my favorite tracks are: Reservoir: A great opening track that has so much soul and has a great sound to it.
Watch the Walls Melt Down: A very powerful rock/rap song that is very upbeat and full of personality.
Champion: A very uplifting song about being a champion...very good.
Black Heart: Very catchy tune, with a hook that has something like, "Blaze through the night, blaze through the night..."
Confidence: Possibly my favorite song on the album so far. Such a great song about confidence and has such a sweet beat.
Vow of Silence: Very cool rap and singing song where he goes on about biblical things with great rhymes.
Obstacles: Another great uplifting song about getting through obstacles and how they make you stronger. Great chorus and verses.
Hard Way: I heard this song a few days ago, and found it started out a little slow, but it truly picks up about one-third of the way through with a very high-energy chorus, and sounds great.

No, it is not the Matisyahu of old, but somewhere in there you find some of his old style. This album to me was very diverse, he has the slow the sad, and then the more upbeat songs. I just about enjoyed every song and how different they were from one another. Very happy with this album, and a better direction from Spark Seeker.

Enjoy!

For starters if you're a fan you need to this album I mean just sample listen to a few of the tunes on this album and I promise you won't be disappointed. This album has a combination of reggae, slow jams, and sweet riffs and beautiful and heart wrenching lyrics that basically pull the insides of Matis soul and leave them on these tracks. I feel like each of his songs reveal layer upon layer of Matis journey in life, family, and religion. Matis in my opinion is a stronger more grounded musician/artist because of the transitions and leaps he's taken in his music career. There's a few tracks that feature other artists that I wasn't familiar with but collaboration was stellar! One of my favorite tracks on this album is "Vow of Silence," and "Champion," and "Sick for So Long." Matis identifies with David, Abraham and Isaac and Joseph and like Matis these men travailed and become who they were meant to be. And the moral of their stories is that the father never cut them off of the tree but they remained and they were blessed. The building of our character is through the trials and the sifting that we allow to take place. We can change every day who we are and who we want to be, we're changed from glory to glory, and we can finish this race with our battle wounds and scars...but the evolving of ourselves only takes place if we choose to change. This is the truth my friend.

Blessings & SHALOM!

Matisyahu is one of the most thoughtful and dynamic artists working today. In an age of cheap cynical pop music, he has always been a breath of fresh air. Within his own craft, his stylistic evolution only cements his ability to weave varied influences. It baffles me when consumers of music deride an artist for not sticking with the same formula throughout their career. Feel free to grow with the artist people. And in the case of Matisyahu, the term artist actually does apply. He's not a derivative shock jock like so many tired acts in hip hop and pop today. He's got something to say. Listen up.

I have loved Matisyahu's music for a long time. It has been so amazing to watch his journey as an artist and a person. In many ways I feel like my spiritual awakening has happened alongside his music.

That being said, this album is at a whole new level. I keep listening to it again and again and find new depth and meaning every single time. There is not a song on here that I don't love.

Many of the songs are edgier than his past stuff, both from a musical standpoint as well as the lyrics themselves. His style keeps evolving which is one of the things that I love the most. If you like Matisyahu you will love this album. If you have never listened to any of his work now is a great time to start!

It's a solid album from Matisyahu. He definitely strives for more poetic emotionalism. It's still an adjustment from what he has come from to what he is now. But, I think Matisyahu is maturing and developing as an artist.

I am not a music critic, but I have enjoyed Matisyahu's music from the beginning. I think this album is a response to his evolution as a person and musician and I like what I hear.
