This is music to get inspired by,
This review is from: Akeelah & The Bee (Audio CD)
This is the kind of CD you can put on when you're having a bad day or you need inspiration and it'll get you going again. Akeelah's soundtrack is a great mix of the old school I grew up with and some great new artists I'm delighted to hear. Every single song talks about respecting yourself and living your dreams.

HOW DO YOU SPELL SUPERCALIFRAGILISTICEXPIALIDOCOUS?,

This review is from: Akeelah and the Bee (Audio CD)
I JUST SAW THE MOVIE AKEELAH AND THE BEE, AND THE MOVIE WAS GREAT! I HIGHLY RECOMMEND THAT EVERYONE GO OUT AND RENT THE DVD IMMEDIATELY. NOW AS FAR AS THE SOUNDTRACK GOES, "THE RUBBERBAND MAN" BY THE SPINNERS ALONE IS WORTH THE PRICE OF THE CD, BUT TO HAVE "RESPECT YOURSELF" BY MESSAGE MUSIC GREATS THE STAPLE SINGERS; "RESPECT" BY THE QUEEN OF SOUL: ARETHA FRANKLIN; "ABC" BY THE ORIGINAL BOY BAND THE JACKSON FIVE; "L.O.V.E. (LOVE)" BY AL GREEN; "PEOPLE GET READY" BY THE IMPRESSIONS; "STOMP" BY THE BROTHERS JOHNSON; AND THE INSPIRING SOUNDS OF HAROLD MELVIN AND THE BLUENOTES SINGING "WAKE UP EVERYBODY" MAKES THIS CD A ONE-OF-A-KIND COLLECTION OF CLASSIC BACK-IN-THE-DAY HITS. THE MOVIE MADE ME LAUGH, CRY, SCREAM AND SHOUT! BUT THE CD JUST MADE ME WANT TO DANCE UNTIL MY FEET FELL OFF. MY OVERALL GRADE FOR THIS MASTERPIECE: A+

Where's Deborah Cox?,
This review is from: Akeelah & The Bee (Audio CD)
This CD is great music, but beware it does not have the best track of the entire film, which is Deborah Cox's "Definition of Love". To get that you need to buy the movie DVD Akeelah and the Bee. Also it is currently on y*utube.

This was a great story and just goes to show, you don't know how good you can be until someone pushes you to your destiny. I loved it. Got the movie and the CD for the songs.

One of the best soundtracks of all time,
By M.K. (Norfolk, VA) - See all my reviews
This review is from: Akeelah & The Bee (Audio CD)
The soundtrack for the 2006 movie Akeelah and the Bee should be placed with some of the best movie soundtracks of all time.
It features a blend of R&B tunes of yesteryear with some of today's up and coming talents. It contains the hits, "Rubberband Man" by The Spinners, the socially-conscious "Wake Up Everybody", "Respect Yourself" and "Respect" by Harold Melvin and the Bluenotes, The Staple Singers and Aretha Franklin, Al Green's "L.O.V.E. (Love)", the Brothers Johnson's "Stomp", Jackson 5's "ABC" and Curtis Mayfield and the Impressions with "People Get Ready". We can't forget those new tunes by RES, Heather Small, Erica Rivera and the film's star, Keke Palmer. Film composer Aaron Zigman's compelling score pieces (the bumpin' "A.K.E.E.L.A.H.", the emotionally-charged "Prestidigitation" and the fast-paced "Scrabble 1 & 2") helps to round it all out. Like I said in my other soundtrack reviews, the soundtrack and the movie goes together like kool-aid and sugar. This is definitely the inspirational soundtrack for the underdog, overachiever and all points in between in this thing we call life. Akeelah and the Bee soundtrack kicks b-u-t-t! |
