5.0 out of 5 stars Great Fun For All Ages!, April 13, 2002

The quest for the kidnapped Prince Froptoppit concludes in this volume. The art and writing by Mark Crilley is superb; Very funny moments effortlessly mix with great suspense, The mysterious Throck's secret is revealed, and there's a GREAT twist involving Alia Rellapor. Crilley is improving as a storyteller with each successive book. This one just zooms along!

Fans of the Akiko comics will love this book, and it would make a great read for young fans of Harry Potter.

5.0 out of 5 stars Realistic role model, April 14, 2011
Amazon Verified Purchase(What's this?)
The Akiko books by Mark Crilley are partly based on a series of graphic novels he produced a while back. Akiko in the Castle of Alia Rellapor is the last in the first 4 book series. We read the other 3 at the library and couldn't wait for them to get this last one in to find out what happened.

Akiko is a girl of about 10 years of age who learns alot about herself by helping others in a fairly unique setting. She is taken to the Planet Smoo (book 1) to help bring the prince back from this castle. Akiko learns that she has a lot more to give than she expected to lead the team to find the prince. My 7 year old daughter feels she can relate to Akiko who is a "normal" person who is just going to school and parents who work.

There were enough pictures added through the book from Crilley to add to the fun for my daughter as we read it together.

Makes a huge change from fairies and other typical girls stories. I highly recommend it.

My eight year old daughter has read every book in this series and is clamoring for more. We read them together and I find them lots of fun as well. Akiko is a regular girl and gets through her adventures without resort to super powers or unnatural courage. I highly recommend the whole set!
