5.0 out of 5 stars The Best Music Ever, September 5, 2002
This review is from: Akino Arai Collection Album Rgb (Audio CD)
If you have stumbled across this CD, consider yourself lucky.
It is as though Akino Arai combines all the known great musical techniques to achieve the greatest music EVER.

Her voice is extremely pretty. She grabs sounds from the past 300 years of music, including cellos, strings, recorders... up to modern drums, guitars, and finally, sampled electronic beats, and you know what ? It's NOT eclectic. It flows. It all fits. Beautifully, seemlessly.

Think of her like a Bjork who never lost sight of the fact that music is for fans. Like a Celine Dion who never lost sight of the fact that an Artist should be an Artist and not a commericialized performer. And then, think of her as a modern Beethoven with the prettiest voice ever.

I would imagine that they are currently building giant gardens in her honor in Tokyo even as we speak.

My counsel ? Buy everything she ever creates.

Some of it is perhaps too mellow; or targetted towards little children; ( after all, ANIME and TV cartoons are her main commissioners of music ), BUT misgivings asides, song per song, note per note, it's the best music ever.

My love affair with Japanese music started thanks to Arai Akino. Kirei na Kanjou is one of the most beautiful songs you'll ever hear in your lifetime. In fact most songs on this album are so well composed and sung that they will make you cry. I don't speak Japanese but I have listened to the album so many times that I can sing along to it. Every song on this album is wonderful and unique, beautiful vocals combined with amazing music. A must-have for every fan of Japanese music.

5.0 out of 5 stars Japanese Enya, October 11, 2003

If you enjoy Enya, Cocteau Twins or Ekova, you will love to listen to Akino Arai. She is quite popular in Japan and provides the music for many movie soundtracks. Melodious, pensive, shy.

You certianly do not need to understand Japanese to appreciate the delicacy of her arrangements nor the heart of her voice.

5.0 out of 5 stars Utterly beautiful album., July 31, 2002

This review is from: Akino Arai Collection Album Rgb (Audio CD)
I simply can not describe how good this album is and not merely a few of the tracks, all of them. Most of the songs on this album are quite beautiful, particularly 4 and 9, both are very powerfull and beautiful at once. The use of classical instruments is flawless and refreshing. Akino arai has a very beautiful singing voice. I must admit that I am usually very negative about music (so I'm a snob). Yes, it is all in Japanese, but the beauty is still inherent (and come on, a lot of opera is in Latin/German/French, they are still listened to by people who have no knowledge of the languages). All and all, a very worthwhile CD.
