5.0 out of 5 stars 'A voice is a person' (Peter Pears), January 3, 2002

This review is from: Aksel Schiotz Vol. 7 (Audio CD)
There are voices that attract you immediately, and/or they appear to you as soundmakers you'll never forget having heard them only once or just a few times. In fact the Danish tenor Aksel Schiøtz (1906-75) was one of them until due to a tumor acusticus he had to undergo brain surgery in 1946 which left him with a rather ordinary baritone. This volume is all in Danish, but you'll hear his voice in full bloom interpreting the virtual treasure of Danish song, like nobody did before him, and which, unfortunately enough, no Danish singer has been able to do ever since. In Denmark it is still a wonder how he could sing the vowel 'A' without swallowing it.
It is a matter of taste which songs to prefer, and through it all you hear his profound devotion to this music. If unlike me you don't understand Danish, then close your eyes, and let the music and the voice fill your mind. From his interpretation you may well understand the verbal contents merely through the music and its humble vocal servant.
