Gallen-Kallela - art and bio,
This review is from: Akseli Gallen-Kallela: The Spirit of Finland (Paperback)
This book presents Gallen-Kallela's, a native of Finland, diverse artistic works at its best. High quality prints (and there are a lot) of his Kalevala, a book and epic poem of Finnish folklore, inspired and other paintings give an excellent overview of Gallen-Kallela's works. An excellently written bio adds to the high quality of this book (originally published as a museum proceeding). The book also gives some reference to Finland's tumultuous time under Russian rule from the late 1800s to early 1900s, and immediately after gaining independence in 1917.

This review is from: Akseli Gallen-Kallela: The Spirit of Finland (Paperback)
We encountered Askeli Gallen-Kallela's paintings at an exhibit of Nordic landscape painting at the Atheneum in Helsinki. He was one of my favorite artists from the exhibit, and I was delighted to find this beautiful full-color collection of his work for such a reasonable price.
