Very Satisfied with Akuzuki Nailer,
This review is from: Akuzuki Hardwood Floor Flooring Stapler & Cleat Nailer Nail Gun (Misc.)
I was very skeptical at first about ordering a flooring nailer from the web, especially a brand that I had not heard of. However, I decided to try it. I have been very happy with the performance thus far. It was delivered in about 3 or 4 days, which I thought was great. It came in a nice, sturdy carrying case, just like many other tools that you would buy at a retailer. I used bostich 2" nails and they have worked fine. I have laid about 450 sq. ft so far, and it has performed perfectly. Not a single misfire! I would totally recommend this nailer to anyone planning to install hardwood floors. The price is about half what you would pay for a name brand, and the quality is just as good, or better.

I am a fairly new DIYer installing 3/4" hard teak flooring in most of our 2nd floor. Overall, I am quite impressed with the nailer, given that it is priced at a fraction of the cost of some other nailers. I have not used other flooring nailers, however, so I have no experience outside of this tool and therefore cannot compare performance. Nevertheless, the tool is performing as it should.
PROS: 1. Accomodates both flooring nails and staples. 2. I am using 2" staples with a 1/2" crown, as recommended by the flooring manufacturer. I have experienced no jams after installing approximately 250 square feet of flooring (although driving the staples has caused a number of split flooring tongues). Reducing the compressor PSI seems to reduce the frequency, but has not eliminated the problem. 3. Gun actuates consistently. 4. Despite the hardness and thickness of the flooring, the gun has no problem driving the staples deep enough to counter sink them...no predrilling required. CONS: 1. Manual is photo copy quality and hard to read in some spots. There isn't much to learn to operate the tool, but I may find the documentation lacking when I eventually need to rebuild the tool. 2. Since the gun is actuated by stricking the trigger with a rubber mallet (provided), the tool cannot be used on the last 2-3 rows of flooring adjacent to a wall. A model with a squeeze trigger (as on finish nail guns) would solve this. I don't know if this feature is available on other higher priced models, but it would be nice to have. 3. Since the part of the tool that houses the nails/staples sticks out of the back of the tool, the tool cannot be used on the first 2-3 rows of flooring adjacent to a wall. A model with a more vertical nail/staple cartridge would allow using the tool closer to the wall on the first few rows of flooring. 4. Make sure that you wear appropriate hearing protection, as the nailer is quite loud.

Fast shipping arrived in 5 days. Taketool shows 2 nailer models on Amazon. This one is w/out trigger the other with. I ordered the 1 w/o but got 1 with. Taketool needs to update their Amazon page because I think they only have 1 tool.
Tool instructions are a JOKE w/poor photocopies that you can't read. Plastic tool case cracked and short 1 allen wrench when arrived. Tool working good now after I tuned it. The bottom nailer edge was misaligned and hitting the tongue flooring incorrectly. There is some wiggle room in the edge plate (the metal lip that pushes against the floor above the tongue). I adjusted it to hit the flooring edge correctly making a huge difference. One of the screws holding the plate was cross threaded from the factory so I had to replace it with a 6MM hexscrew. Except for that issue QC is pretty good. Not done w/project but so far so good. Staples work fine on Oak but I was splitting Asian Walnut. This stuff is like Brazilian Cherry so I switched to cleats. The nails are working out much better.

As a DIY person and a non-pro woodworker, I desire the best of the name brand tools, and have purchased and currently own several models of Senco and Bostitch nailers that I have used in other projects. I decided to lay a little over 500 sq ft of red oak hardwood in my home, but don't intend on making this a business. I was initially interested in the Bostitch flooring nailer but considering the limited use, decided it was cost prohibitive for such a specialized tool. I purchased the Akuzuki nailer based upon other reviews and was able to lay my floor in a long day and a half. While laying the floor, I suffered only two jams, caused by not striking the trigger hard enough with the mallet , and the Jams were easily cleared with four allen screws. I used two inch Bostitch nails, and the nailer set them properly in the nail groove of the flooring. The foot of the nailer didn't mar the pre-finished oak and I am very pleased with the final results. I especially like the safety trigger and the physical profile of the nailer. It is great to have a repair kit included, although I have not needed it yet. My only complaint is the instruction manual which is a photocopy. I accidentally spilled a soda on it and it is now totally unreadable. This is a great tool for the price and I have not regretted the purchase.

I purchased this nailer to install 1500 square foot of 3/4 solid walnut for a customer. Rental fees would have exceeded the cost to purchase this nailer and based on the reviews, it seemed like a decent choice (and it was about the only type of nailer I didn't own yet...). Nailer arrived within a couple days. Case is nice and contains most everything needed to maintain the tool. Tool even comes with an industrial standard air fiting installed.
It drove nearly every cleat perfectly and I only had one jamb that was caused by my lightly bumping the striker (which will partially drive a fastener) and then striking it for real - jamb was easily cleared by removing one plate with the tools provided. I used only Bostitch cleats. I noticed that it didn't sit perfectly flat on the flooring with the base plate provided so I added a shim made from high pressure laminate (Formica) between the base plate and the nailer. The addition of that shim made the nailer sit perfectly on the wood. I didn't use it without but it shouldn't make too much of a difference. The mallet provided with my nailer was very good and I had no problems with it at all as some of the others reported.; maybe they got the word. I did use it hard and for the entire 1500 sq. ft. Now, the one flaw. I read some other reviews where they stated that the nailer started leaking air. This one did too but only intermittently. It would sometimes bleed a little air when the safety trigger remained compressed between shots. The leaking air did not affect the ability to drive fasteners at all and came and went about three times per room - not a big deal but a bit annoying. I did not rebuild the nailer with the o-rings provided. Figured I wait until it really didn't work. I would recommend this nailer for the serious DIYer or the occasional flooring install for a remodeling contractor like myself.

After renting a nail gun locally over the past year and installing Oak, Hickory and Bamboo in our house, I decided that it made sense to buy rather then rent. So we do not have to rush the job and get the nailer back to the rental shop. One Sunday we stayed up until 3am so we could finish the flooring installation and get the nail gun back in time Monday morning.
I ordered the Akuzuki floor stapler and nail gun. It is easy to use and you can load both staples or nails/cleats and use on different sizes of flooring I.E. 5/8 or 3/4. I have used it to install Maple and the only problem I had with it was that it left small indentations on the wood from the base plate. I found that I might have been putting too much weight on the base plate with my foot to hold it in place and keep it from rebounding. I also put some duct tape on the hard plastic base plate to soften it a bit. That seemed to work. In the end I am very pleased with this nail gun and now I can start a project when I want and can avoid the time, gas and hassle of going to a rental shop. I still have some bamboo, mahogany and more maple to install so I am hoping.

I installed 3 bedrooms of hardwood flooring in about 4 - 5 days with no issues. The nailer worked flawlessly and the results look great! I suggest this tool to anyone looking for a do it yourself flooring nailer. Don't spend more for a Bostich when this nailer works great.

I am looking to hardwood floor 4 rooms and a hallway at 1000 sq ft. I concluded the price of nailer rental would be excessive, so I began shopping. I was stunned to see what these tools go for at Home Depot and Lowes (~$500). So I searched Amazon and found this one. I was impressed with its feature to handle both staples and cleats.
It arrived in 4 days from order, which was most satisfactory. The tool is very well built, and the carrying case is quite nice. The gasket rebuild set was a also a nice bonus. Unlike prior reviews which panned the poor photocopy quality of the documentation, the documentation I received was wholly legible and straightforward to understand. While I had no prior experience with floor nailers or pneumatic tools, I was extremely pleased with the way the tool handled and performed. I put it through a series of tests with staple fasteners on 3/4" oak floor to test its function with different device pressures over the operating range. I was pleased to find it has ample power even at the lower range of operating pressure and uses a small enough rate of air consumption so that the [6 gal.] air compressor is not constantly cycling. While I have yet to determine how well the tool will hold up over time, I am extremely pleased and impressed with my purchase, and with the vendor, who has pledged customer satisfaction in their shipment materials.

Just finished laying over 400 square feet of 3/4 oak flooring with this tool and did not have a single jamb or misfire during the complete install.
I just can not imagine what the name brand tools have at double or triple the price that this one does not. This tool made this a great weekend project! |
