Look for this CD, or get 'Greatest Hits' or Box Set!, June 7, 2000

This entire CD is just unbelievably great. The soulful singing, the bottom bass and drum, the just-so organ riff, the magnificent horns, and the lyrics are one of rock/soul/R&B's great achievements. Beautifully arranged, with the essentials tightly grooved together, without the overproduced, overdubbed sound that ruins so many other efforts.
Too bad this CD is currently unavailable. But, if you can't get this CD, try some of the greatest hits CDs, or spring for the box set. One personal recommendation: Be sure the CD has "Take Me to the River." (Oh well, you may have your own personal favorites: "Let's Stay Together,"Sha La La," "L-O-V-E," "Look What You Done to Me," and on and on.) As great as he is, I still think Al Green is under-rated by most of the public, and that his sound has influenced many musicians (Prince, perhaps?) Put Al up there with Aretha, James, Otis, Sam, Jackie and the best of the Isley Brothers, he's in the pantheon, baby!

This is the best collection of hits from one of the R & B greats. I simply love this collection. Classy, soulful, heartfelt, and inimitable. Al Green is the man.
