Book Description

June 1, 1996
The Coming Economic Battle among Japan, Europe, and America

The central argument in this volume is that the familiar economic alignments of the twentieth century are obsolete. The author evaluates America's position in the coming world order in light of these shifting circumstances. While the United States remains one of the major economic powers, the future will be controlled by those who train and educate themselves and those who invest more money into research in order to develop concrete plans to confront the competition.

Thurow suggests that very different views of capitalism exist between the United States and Britain on the one hand, and Germany and Japan on the other. In order to ensure continued success, better education and national planning, along with increased communication between businesses, unions and the government, become central components of the game.

Synopsis:

A revolutionary look at what America must do today to compete tomorrow in a world where economic competition will determine leadership.

Editorial Reviews

Review

One of America's most distinguished economists gives a vivid account of the battle between the US and Japan and a newly integrated Europe for economic dominance. He provides suggestions on how America can change its economic ways and once again regain its position in the world. Mr. Thurow's urgency compels attention....I suspect Americans will have to find a uniquely American way to meet the challenge. -- NY Times Book Review

This review is from: Al-Mutanaatehoon -Arabic (Head to Head): The Coming Economic Battle among Japan, Europe and America (Paperback)
This is the first book wholly in ARABIC, I see offered for sale on Amazon.com. Congratulations to Amazon, and the distributors of this book for this pioneering effort. The book is a translation from English (Head to Head) and all Arabic reading persons interested with the international economic race should read this book. It should be used for teaching economics to Arabic speaking students.
