5.0 out of 5 stars Very Nice Tahini
I use tahini primarily to make hummus dip for fresh vegetables and pita bread. This is a fresh tahini paste (vs roasted) with a fresh nutty-sesame flavor. This tahini is more liquid than other tahini that I have purchased. You may need to adjust your hummus ingredients to use less liquid to get the consistency you prefer. This would be much better if it were thicker. I used to buy Maranatha raw organic tahini, and it was much better--- unfortunately not available anymore. It had a much fresher, sweeter taste.

5.0 out of 5 stars Very Nice Tahini, November 22, 2007

I use tahini primarily to make hummus dip for fresh vegetables and pita bread. This is a fresh tahini paste (vs roasted) with a fresh nutty-sesame flavor. This tahini is more liquid than other tahini that I have purchased. You may need to adjust your hummus ingredients to use less liquid to get the consistency you prefer. The current price point of $5.00/lb ($30 for 6 pounds) is OK (previously very reasonably priced from $3.00 to $3.79 per pound.) In addition, 6 pounds is a huge quantity for me despite my liking for hummus.

Hummus can be prepared in 5 minutes in a food processor if you start with canned or cooked chick peas. You may need to stir the tahini before using as it tends to separate. Start with 1 clove garlic; chop and then mince in the food processor; add a 15 oz can (drained, reserve liquid) chick peas, 1/3 cup tahini, 1/3 cup olive oil. Mix and process at high speed until smooth; adjust thickness with reserved liquid as needed. Add seasonings such as salt, pepper, cummin or lemon juice to taste.

Whether you call it tahini or tahina, this sesame seed paste is also used to make halvah, a candy and debis which is the Middle East version of peanut butter and jelly.

5.0 out of 5 stars Al Wadi Tahini Paste, August 3, 2007

Fresh and Delicious! This is my second case and will be back for more once this is done too -- makes awesome hummus and is also delicious as a replacement for Peanut Butter for those of us that can't have highly sugared types!

Great Stuff!!

5.0 out of 5 stars The best raw tahini I've ever had, July 26, 2009
Amazon Verified Purchase(What's this?)
This review is from: Al Wadi Tahina, 100% Ground Sesame, 16-Ounce Jars (Pack of 6) (Grocery)
This is the best raw tahini I've ever had -- and I've tried many brands. It does have a very strong "raw tahini" flavor however, which some people may not like. But this strong flavor was exactly what I was looking for. Unlike one reviewer, I found little bitterness in this tahini -- I'd say it is far less bitter than the average raw tahini. If you want a mild tahini, go with a roasted one, not a raw one. But if you want a traditional tahini for traditional Middle Eastern dishes, I strongly recommend this one.

I've used this tahini in hummus, baba ghannouj, sauce for falafel, and sesame noodles. The results have been fantastic with the tahini flavor coming through in the final product, whereas other tahinis you can barely taste.

As another reviewer noted, this tahini is more liquidy than other tahinis, no doubt due to a higher oil content, so you may have to cut back on the other liquids or oils in the recipe.

I use this tahini to make hummus. It is not too thick and not oily at all.

5.0 out of 5 stars Great taste, great value, October 11, 2009

Good tahina is not hard to find, but good tahina at a great price is much harder to locate. Al Wadi produces a quality product that makes making tahini sauce one of the easiest tasks a cook could have. There's no waste, it can last for ages in the refrigerator (but not in *my* house, we eat it too often!), and I always have some on hand for a snack with fresh bread, or for wraps, or a dip with kebabs.

5.0 out of 5 stars Excellent Tahini, August 10, 2009
This review is from: Al Wadi Tahina, 100% Ground Sesame, 16-Ounce Jars (Pack of 6) (Grocery)
Excellent product for hummus or any other recipe that calls for tahini. Since it is natural with no junk added, the solids separate from the sesame oil. I just shake the container each time really hard before using it and when it becomes very hard on the bottom, I cut it with a knife and just use a bit of water or lemon juice to thin it. Al wadi again delivers a great product.

I've tried a range, and this is definitely the best for the real deal in authentic tahini for Middle-Eastern hummos.

5.0 out of 5 stars It's as good as many other brands, March 15, 2010
A Kid's Review
This review is from: Al Wadi Tahina, 100% Ground Sesame, 16-Ounce Jars (Pack of 6) (Grocery)
I just ordered a 6 pack of this brand and I like it. To me, it tastes just like any other tahini sauce I've tried. I've tried 3 other brands and this is just as good as the rest. The only problem I have is with the packaging. It's plastic. Brands such as Ziyad package thier tahini in glass bottles. Most importantly, The price is good, free shipping and purchasing online is very convenient for me.
