Book Description

December 31, 2002
From the introduction:

While I was compiling these essays, a friend asked, "What’s the book about?"

I was stumped for a moment. Then I said, "It’s about ethics, loyalty, kindness, honesty, laughter, curiosity, common sense–all that fun stuff."

He laughed. "You mean, it’s about life."

I laughed, too. "Yeah," I said, "that’s it. The fun stuff of life."

About the Author

Since starting work at IBM in 1951, the day after graduating from college, Al Shugart has been a force in the high-tech industry. He founded the disc-drive giant Seagate Technology and served as its president and CEO. In between times he tended bar at his own barroom and fished commercially for salmon on the West Coast. In 1996 he ran his Bernese Mountain dog, Ernest, for Congress as a way to promote voter awareness and participation. He later originated and sponsored the "None of the Above" ballot initiative in California.

A legendary Silicon Valley maverick, he now serves as CEO of Al Shugart International (ASI), a resource center focused on helping entrepreneurs launch new enterprises and on growing small companies into big companies.

He is also the author of Fandango: The Story of Two Guys Who Wanted to Own a Restaurant (One of whom knew what he was doing) and Ernest Goes to Washington (Well, not exactly), the true story of the dog who ran for Congress

4.0 out of 5 stars Like his outlook on life, February 25, 2003
By A Customer
This review is from: Al: The Wit & Wisdom of Al Shugart (Paperback)
His positive approach represents one who hasn't forgotten the basic ABC's of life; care, share, love, enjoy, etc.

As an icon of success, he portrays a down-to-earth perspective on the outlook of life and the challenges it presents.

Nice book to curl up and read.

4.0 out of 5 stars An easy read for common sense, August 23, 2007
This review is from: Al: The Wit & Wisdom of Al Shugart (Paperback)
The Wit and Wisdom of Al Shugart is a great source of just some good, down to earth common sense answers to a lot of life's issues. This is the second copy I've purchased. I enjoyed it so much, I wanted a friend to read it - but did not want to take the chance of losing my copy!
