Editorial Reviews

This the official reissue of the bands long 'out of print' live album from 2000, ALABAMA ASS WHUPPIN'. Recorded in various Georgia clubs during the Pizza Deliverance Tour of 1999, it is probably the most punk rock thing they have ever done. ATO Records & Drive-By Truckers have restored the original 1/2' analogue mixes of the album which have been re-mastered with some beautiful new art work.

5.0 out of 5 stars Love DBTs October 5, 2013
Format:Audio CD|Verified Purchase
This is what a live CD should sound like. It is exhilarating listening to live music and this one delivers. Just listen to the guitar solo on track 2 once and you will be hooked.

5.0 out of 5 stars So much fun! September 25, 2013
Format:MP3 Music|Verified Purchase
The whole album is great! I came upon it by surprise and had never heard of these guys before. Punk energy with some southern rock n' roll, rockabilly and a little country thrown in for good measure. The band is talented, songs inspired and I enjoy listening to each and every cut. Killer cover of "People Who Died"- almost like it better than the original. Sound quality is awesome.

5.0 out of 5 stars EARLY, RAW, LIVE DBT. SUCH A WORTHY BUY !! September 10, 2013
Format:Audio CD
OK - Finally ! I'm so ecstatic that this album has been rereleased ! I can't say enough about this one. In my opinion...This is THE LIVE DBT cd to get your hands on ! I originally got it back around the Decoration Day release (when I realized that I couldn't get enough of this band) . If you like the DBT - just pick this one up - you won't be sorry. Sounds like shows supporting Gangstabilly, and Pizza Deliverance. Early DBT. Easily a 5-Star record. Right from the start "Hey y'all we're the Drive By Truckers..." and away we go. All I'll say is this - If you're into this band, and don't have this one in your collection, pick it up. I've listened to it easily over 50 times and I'm still not tired of it. My favorite DBT album.

5.0 out of 5 stars The album so nice, had to buy tit twice September 12, 2013
Format:MP3 Music|Verified Purchase
I used to have this album on an old, old MP3 player that seemed to disappear during the move. This made me sad. So, when I saw this reissue come up on amazon, I got a little excited inside and just had to buy it again. I used to listen to it constantly, and now am able to do so again.

Seriously, if you only own one Drive By Truckers album, this is the one. Call them what you want, alt-country, neo-southern rock, whatever. They are just a solid rock and roll band and Alabama Ass Whuppin' covers just about everything they got, the power, the range, the emotion, the humor, heck, even some Skynard. There really isn't a bad, or even mediocre song in the bunch. From the mellow yet heavy opening chords of Why Henry Drinks, to the superbly entertaining intro on 18 wheels of Love (one of our wedding songs by the way) on through the aforementioned breakdown into Gimmie Three Steps, this album just kicks from start to finish. Even if you are not a huge DBT fan, check out this album and you will not be disappointed.

4.0 out of 5 stars This is a jump right in night at the rock show. October 15, 2013
Format:Audio CD|Verified Purchase
good solid rocking by the understated but growing legions who know the Drive by Truckers.
i have several of their previous albums, and really liked Go Go Boots and Patterson Hood's solo album.
This starts you out rocking and leaves no doubt you are going to get loud southern rock at its best. You do.

I miss some of the quieter ballads with the dark weirdoes that Hood seems to like, but there is plenty to think about here with daddy swallowing a six pack for medicine before he goes home and rings mommy's neck.

This cd is worthy if the you like the truckers. Maybe a bit of an acquired taste for non-trucker fans. Good.

5.0 out of 5 stars About time! September 28, 2013
By D. Ward
Format:Audio CD|Verified Purchase
This was one of my first exposures to DBTs and I was hooked almost immediately. Around the same time that I "lost" my first disc of this, it became unavailable for download. For quite a while all I had was a boot to listen to. So I was VERY happy to see this was reissued. I can't say it any better than Kevin Marsh, who said this album "covers just about everything they got." Which is quite a lot.

1.0 out of 5 stars Drive on by.
I thought it was unpolished and raw but not in a good way. Wouldn't even make a good garage band.

5.0 out of 5 stars For any DBT fan
If you own any DBT albums then you probably want this one. The back story to 18 wheels of love is worth the entire price of the album even if you don't like live records.

One of the best sounding live albums ever. Makes you feel like you're right there, listening to the DBT's in your favorite nightclub.

4.0 out of 5 stars Good Live Cd
This is an early DBT concert. Good tracks not the greatest quality or sound. Live at Austin City Limits is much better.
