Biography

It's been 40 years since a trio of young cousins left Fort Payne, Alabama, to
spend the summer playing in a Myrtle Beach, South Carolina, bar called The Bowery. It
took Randy Owen, Teddy Gentry and Jeff Cook six long years of tip jars and word of
mouth to earn the major label deal they'd been dreaming of, but then seemingly no
time at all to change the face of country ... Read more in Amazon's Alabama Store

5.0 out of 5 stars All Country Roads Lead To Alabama. August 27, 2013
Format:Audio CD
This is an excellent tribute to legendary country music band Alabama by who is who in country music with their own versions of some of Alabama's great hits in this CD release titled 'Alabama & Friends' (11 tracks). The great and influential country music band Alabama (from Fort Payne, Alabama) has been in the music business for 40 years and they have two beautiful brand new tunes in this CD (their first in 10 years) namely "That's How I Was Raised" (a song about being raised in a religious family in Alabama, great tune and my pick of the best of their two new tunes) & "All American".

Stand-outs/gems/my favourites are the tracks "Old Flame" (wonderful melody and vocals) by Rascal Flatts, "Lady Down On Love" (slow-tempo song with a great orchestral base track & wonderful melody) by Kenny Chesny, "Forever's Far As I'll Go" (beautiful melody and vocals) by Trisha Yearwood, "I'm In A Hurry (I Don't Know Why)" (up-tempo track with great melody) by Florida Georgia Line & "That's How I Was Raised" by Alabama.

Other friends/artists are Jason Aldean with "Tennessee River", Luke Bryan with "Love In The First Degree", Eli Young Band with "The Closer You Get", Toby Keith with "She And I" and Jamey Johnson with "My Home's In Alabama". There is no weak track or CD filler in this tribute album.

On overall, it's a no stone unturned effort in this tribute to country great band Alabama: really excellent versions of Alabama's great hits by who's who in country music and the country music party has to be in Fort Payne and thus all roads lead to Alabama in this CD 'Alabama & Friends'. A highly recommended CD listening. A well deserved 5 star performance.

3.0 out of 5 stars Great artist line-up...good song choices. August 31, 2013
Format:MP3 Music|Verified Purchase
Great to hear today's country stars doing classic Alabama songs.  We might have seen it coming with the excitement Alabama showed while on stage playing Old Alabama with Brad Paisley during the AMAs.  The artist list is solid and diverse:  Jason Aldean, Luke Bryan, Eli Young Band, Jamey Johnson, and Florida Georgia Line representing the current crop of stars.  Rascal Flatts, Kenny Chesney, and Toby Keith represent more of the old guard.  And it's great to hear Trisha Yearwood again (a prelude to a new CD in the future - a duet album with hubby and upcoming tour partner Garth Brooks, perhaps?).  The boys from Virginia Beach sing on all the tracks; and there are two new songs - the first new recorded Alabama in a while.  The new tracks are vanilla choices that play to country standards of patriotism and down home roots; not bad songs, just not songs that wold make it onto a Greatest Hits collection. The song choices are good; particularly seeing as any Alabama tribute has 4x hits to choose from.  The artists stay true to the original material; a safe and effective choice.  The highlights are Yearwood's 'Forever's As Far As I'll Go', Chesney's smooth 'Lady Down On Love', and FGL's uptempo 'I'm In A Hurry (And Don't Know Why).  The album appropriately closes with Jamey Johnson doing 'My Home's In Alabama'.  Johnson is a (perhaps) lesser-known talent, but shines in a bluesy rendition that he makes his own - this version might have become a hit for him if it wasn't already Alabama's signature song.

4.0 out of 5 stars The Alabama Sound never get old September 19, 2013
Format:Audio CD|Verified Purchase
Enjoyed the slightly updated sound by today's artist, but lets face it, you can
only change perfection ever so slightly. I know the group has family and other priorities, but please guys, your fans are all hoping you will do a few performances, maybe an album. Till then I will listen to Alabama and Friends, and all the Bama Boys albums!!!

I enjoyed the songs that were chosen and especially the artists that performed them. Each brought something special into the mix and I loved the new songs that came with it. If you enjoy Alabama and their songs, you will enjoy this "tribute" to Alabama.
