Editorial Reviews

NTSC/Region 0. DVD featuring the multi-platinum, award-winning Country quartet filmed live in concert. 40 minutes of great harmony-laden feel-good tunes including '40 Hour Week (For A Livin')', 'Dixieland Delight', 'Mountain Music' and the stirring ballad 'There's No Way'. Immortal.

2.0 out of 5 stars Greatest Hits Mary Wells July 27, 2007
Format:DVD
I was somewhat disappointed with this product since it did not really have what I had expected. Mary Wells performace was part of an oldies show done in Florida. The DVD box provided little information as to the date of this performace or really anything else about it. It was a pleasure to hear Mary sing her Motown Hits, however, everything about this production spells cheap. Mary deserved much better treatment.

1.0 out of 5 stars No originals in this "Drifters" group May 20, 2008
Format:DVD
If you're looking for a DVD featuring the music of the Drifters sung by any of the men who made the records back in the '50s and '60s- unfortunately this isn't it. The remnants of the late Johnny Moore's UK based group are the performers on this set, recorded in Great Britain. Although the set list is admirable, it is more a "performance" than a representation of the original Drifters sound. If you want the originals, look for Charlie Thomas of the Drifters on one of the PBS shows with Bill Pinkney and skip this DVD.

5.0 out of 5 stars Country Music's Finest Voice! September 16, 2007
Format:DVD|Verified Purchase
This DVD is absolutely awesome! I have only one complaint...it was not long enough! It is a live show of Gene Watson done several years ago when he was a lot younger but his voice is uncomparable. It has been said that he is a singer's singer. The other country stars envy him and love to hear him sing too!

4.0 out of 5 stars GENE WATSON JUST PLAIN RULES December 5, 2008
Format:DVD
The packaging is pretty awful, displaying a modern day Gene Watson, assuming more people will buy it if fooled into believing it is a newer performance. Not so. We crave older Gene product, especially something as rarified and great as this show here filmed in Florida sometime in the early 80's ( it looks to be about 1982/83 from what I can tell off the outfits the urban cowboy set is wearing.) His singing here is beyond compare, Gene is in the same class as Charlie Rich, George Jones, Conway Twitty, Charley Pride- he is one of the finest country singers we have ever had, his artistry rich and soulful, thoughtful and gripping. This show is worth owning for you will go back again and again when you witness Gene sink his chompers into "14 Carat Mind" or the weeping genius of "Farewell Party," plus my super fave "Love In The hot Afternoon." Absolutely worth it. They just have to change the aesthetic of the art work into something a bit more timeless and cool and it may sell a few more copies.

1.0 out of 5 stars Not Drifters May 8, 2008
Format:DVD|Verified Purchase
I did not enjoy the music - Nothing close to the original drifters - Too much improvising - should have tried to sound like the originals

1.0 out of 5 stars Gene Watson DVD October 30, 2007
Format:DVD|Verified Purchase
I love Gene Watson but the mixing quality is very poor and the last three or four songs are by some woman I have never heard of and there is no mention of it in the product advertisement. A poor investment.

3.0 out of 5 stars Not quite there. April 2, 2007
Format:DVD|Verified Purchase
Tammy Wynette is one of my favorites artists. However, I give this DVD 3 stars strictly on the strength of my love for her. The quality is minimal, at best--the picture jumps, and is a bit blurry at full screen. I find it incredible with a star of this magnitude, more and better quality material is not available. The "In Concert" DVD is better quality, at least from the "jumping" perspective, but it too is not the best video quality. One redeeming feature of the DVD is a lengthy interview with Tammy, but the video quality is about the same. There is some useless promo material on the video, not related to Wynette. If you're a die-hard, buy it; there seems to be little else out there.

This DVD is one of 2 Dottie West DVD's that I know of that are available and on the market today. The other DVD is the best of Dottie West and it has some of the same full length song clips that were filmed live at Church Street Station in Orlando. This DVD also has Tom Wopat ( you might remember him from the Dukes of Hazzard TV show) singing. It also features Freddie Weller.

Dottie West never got the recognition she deserved. She was way ahead of her time...and reinvented herself. I still remember when she first appeared in the Glam outfits, skin tight spandex and knee high boots and heels. Her songs with Kenny Rogers were also some of my favorites. And I really wish Country Sunshine would have been on the DVD.

I keep wondering where Dottie would be today had she not been taken from us in that tragic car crash on the way to the Grand Ole Opry. Buy this DVD...maybe if the studios see that there is a market for Dottie West Video...well maybe we will finally get some more stuff.

5.0 out of 5 stars Very handsome and great singer
I grew up on Gene Watson. The only downfall to this was seeing how much he has aged but he can still carry a tune and melt your heart. Loved this and miss hearing his voice.
