It is always a joy to me when I come across a great poet's first book. Finding a good collection of contemporary poetry can be difficult, and finding one that is the poet's first book gets downright hard. Luckily I found Jennifer Reeser's first book. This book has it all: beautiful language, a wide range of subjects, and technical prowess. She writes lyrics, dramatic monologues, and narratives. You'll find sonnets and the lesser known sapphics as well as other forms. I have no doubt that Reeser will one day take her place with those great women poets of the past and present.

In Jennifer Reeser's first book, we are welcomed to formal poetry with intelligence and beauty. It's an outstanding first book of poems with charm, elegance and truthfulness. Reeser has a strong unique voice that I'm sure we'll be hearing more from.Even poetry readers who do not necessarily seek out formal verse will enjoy this book. It's an experience to be shared by all. I would recommend this! |
