5.0 out of 5 stars Great travel mugs
I bought a couple of these travel mugs for coffee so I could quit wasting cups at the local coffee shop. I really like that these are made from 100% recycled post-consumer plastic and are also 100% recyclable once they are ready to be replaced. They are also dishwasher safe and microwave safe (which is really nice for reheating coffee if it starts to get cold). I bought...

2.0 out of 5 stars strong plastic smell
I am happy with this blue mug because it is microwaveable. However, it has a very strong plastic smell that we can't seem to wash it out. It has gone through the dishwasher at least 10 times now and the smell is still strong. The plastic smell is so strong that it overwhelms the flavor of the tea.

Plus, they keep hot beverages nice and warm for a good long time. Highly recommended.

It took me a LONG time to find a coffee mug that was dishwasher safe, was BPA free, didn't leak and kept coffee hot on my husband's commute to work. I don't remember how I stumbled upon these mugs, but they fit the bill to a tee. I bought 4 of these mugs and my husband says they are great. We highly recommend them.

5.0 out of 5 stars finally found my microwave safe travel mug!, April 19, 2009

+WON'T LEAK OR SPILL (if you keep it basically upright)*
+microwave safe
+dishwasher safe

*The lid screws on tight and spill proof, but there is a half-moon-type of opening on top that you're supposed to drink out of. The only way to 'close' it is with the flat piece of plastic that twists over the opening or to the side so you can drink. If the mug is full and you turn it upside down or on its side... yes, it will leak. If you have it full and twist the cover shut while you drive or go out to your car, you're not going to have spilling issues. There is a 1/2" lip that goes all the way around the top to keep your liquid from going over the side and spilling.

This is an awesome mug! Not only does it hold about 2 cups of liquid, it keeps it nice and warm for a long time. Plus it's earth friendly, and microwavable and dishwasher safe. AND cheep! What's not to love?

Very dishwasher safe and no drips. WAY better durability than all those free coffee mugs you get at conferences. I have four of these and love them. Have had them for years and they're still as good as new.

I ordered this cup for my hubby who likes to reheat his coffee in the microwave, so he needs cups that are not metal. This one works fine- good size. Lid screws on easily & tightly. Not sure about the reviewers who said it leaks- either they didn't have it on tight or they tipped it over all the way or something?

4.0 out of 5 stars the plastic travel mug, reinvented, April 9, 2010
This review is from: Aladdin Recycled and Recyclable 16-Ounce Mug, Blue (Kitchen)
My last plastic Aladdin "throwaway" mug lasted about four years before dishwater started infiltrating between the inner and outer layers. This one is more rugged than its predecessor. The embossed symbol on the bottom (PP) indicates that it's made out of polypropylene, which is good; it means that it won't react with beverages and it can go right back into the recycling bin when it fails.

The better steel mugs have superior insulating properties, but their overall longevity seems to be no better than the plastic ones because the seals wear out. Then they go into the trash. Funny that stainless steel used to be rare and expensive. Now our underpaid friends in China produce so much of it that it piles up in landfills. This mug could be the closest thing to "a better way" you can find at present.

Functionally, the only improvement I can think of would be a carbiner attachment. Stylistically, more color choices would be nice.

5.0 out of 5 stars Love these., March 19, 2010

I have about 6 of these now and would buy more, had I more cabinet space. I searched forever for an affordable, durable, large, spill resistant and most of all, microwaveable travel mug. I drink chamomile tea 24/7, sometimes iced, sometimes hot and insist on being able to toss it in the microwave. It really is hard to believe how most are not microwave safe due to some metal part, that in my experience, often flakes the coating after awhile, even if you followed the appropriate care instructions. Its a bonus that it is made of recycled plastic and is recyclable. The matte plastic doesn't get scratched and they can handle several drops to a hard floor without breaking.

And that's "spill resistant" NOT "spill proof". If you turn it upside down, you will get some dripping, but if turned sideways when dropped on the floor or in the car, its pretty minimal. It does a decent job of keeping things hot and cold, but don't expect too much. Left for hours at room temp, it isn't going to do much good. It is better at keeping things cold than hot so if you insist on something microwave safe, this is definitely the way to go.

insulates well for the first 15 minutes, then cup starts to sweat or heat can be felt through cup.
