Get to know Alan Freed!,
By
This review is from: The Alan Freed Story - The Early Years Of Rock & Roll (Paperback)
To me, this is the best source about Alan Freed. The amount of research and referenced sources is amazing. I knew the highlights of Freed's life, but I did not know a lot of the background stories. John Jackson does a great job of presenting Freed's life within the context of the times; Jackson's narrative made me feel like I was there. Freed certainly had his demons and was far from perfect, but it's a shame he didn't live long enough to enjoy the credit that he deserved for introducing and supporting early rock and roll artists.

This review is from: The Alan Freed Story - The Early Years Of Rock & Roll (Paperback)
This book follows Alan Freed's rise and fall from prominence. I thought the most interesting aspect of the book was how rock and roll slowly made its' way into the mainstream of american life.
The book is an entertaining read, and I would recommend it to anyone looking to learn a little bit more about rock and roll's early days and the dynamics of the fledgling rock and roll music industry. |
