5.0 out of 5 stars An excellent resource
I've read earlier incarnations of these texts over the years and am pleased to see it all collected in one volume. The writing is clear and easy to understand. This is a great book for beginners. Once you master the basics, I would highly recommend Horary Astrology Plain and Simple by Anthony Louis to further your education in classical astrological techniques.

3.0 out of 5 stars More Hice than Houses
Mr. Oken does a great job in laying out the standard astrological doctrine for someone newly approaching the subject. However he leaves no directions whatever as to how to evaluate the various house systems. Why IS the Placidean system best? He says it is but doesn't say why. The different systems can place the planets in quite different Houses. And then there is the...

5.0 out of 5 stars Invaluable reference book for astrologers, May 4, 2000
By

No astrological library is complete without this book. Designed for quick reference to signs, planets, houses, and aspects, I use it constantly when interpreting charts. It's the first book I recommend to others interested in studying astrology.

5.0 out of 5 stars The First Real Astrology Book I Studied!, January 23, 2000
Alan Oken's book was the first Good astrology book I really studied. I've now been a full time professional Astrologer since 1976! Alan is a great person and teaches the material very well. Thank you Alan, you made a difference in my life!

5.0 out of 5 stars Great book for the beginning astrologer, July 24, 1999
By A Customer
I have several books on astrology but this is the first one that shows you how to cast a chart like a professional astrologer. I was amazed by his excellent writings regarding astronomy v. astrology.

5.0 out of 5 stars Great teaching tool, November 9, 1998
By A Customer
I have been teaching astrology for years and have recommended this book to all of my students. Another good teaching tool is Karma and Your Sun Sign by Joan Kilgen. Thanks to these authors for making our teaching easier.

5.0 out of 5 stars A must have, November 21, 2007
By
I've had a copy of COMPLETE ASTROLOGY by Alan Oken since the early 1990s and it just keeps on delivering relevant and useful insights into the astrological field. I haven't yet been able to absorb all the wisdom contained within it, every now and then new passages leap out which I could've sworn were not there before.

Plenty of 'a-ha' moments in this book, including much material that dove-tails into other disciplines such as sacred geometry and occultism in general.

I'd give COMPLETE ASTROLOGY six stars if it was available, and I'm not even a practicing astrologer! What's even better is that you can now purchase the revised and updated 2006 edition - so go for it.

Regards,
Daniel John Hancock

5.0 out of 5 stars ..'The book' for getting the basics ..and more !, February 13, 1999
By A Customer
A real direct approach to astrology with a feeling caring attitude. Most books are harder to understand and 'turn off' the student/reader.Mr. Oken has been able to ride over this hurtle and present the subject matter in both an esoteric referenced context and relatable to the science as it pertains to you. Go for it..it is actually 3 books in one..a great deal ..and even better via amazon.com!!

5.0 out of 5 stars A must-have for serious astrologists, May 10, 2008

(REAL NAME)
If you're looking for a playful and light book about astrology, then this book is NOT for you. This book is quite serious and academic with tons of valuable information. It delves quite deep into the history of astrology and this forms the foundation of this book. It's written and reads like a text book. As an amateur astrologer, I found this book very helpful and I have recommended it to anyone who is rather serious about learning astrology. It's a must-have for anyone wanting to approach their interest in the stars and their horoscopes with any degree of seriousness.

5.0 out of 5 stars Complete Overview in one book, December 7, 2007
By
This review is from: Alan Oken's Complete Astrology: The Classic Guide to Modern Astrology (Paperback)
I have learned so much from this book. Very well written and explained. Very comforting philosophical discussion as well on the universe and our place in it. Goes through everything thoroughly and has an outstanding bibliography at the end for further study. Strongly recommended for those wanting a thorough overview & understanding of astrology.

5.0 out of 5 stars No Astrology Reference Library is Complete Without This Book., July 26, 2005
This book, hands down, is the most recommended book for serious astrologers as well as those that are more than just curious, those that want to delve a little deeper. This is definitely in my top five of most valuable books on astrology.
