Excellent 3-D graphics, video content just OK,

This review is from: Alaska 3-D [VHS] (VHS Tape)
I was very anxious to see this video, especially since I grew up in Alaska. The 3-D graphics were more spectacular than I could have ever imagined. However, the actual contents of the video were OK at best.Though the graphics were awsome, the contents of the video were not quite what I expected. The video covered several topics, including: brown bears fishing for salmon, people fly fishing in a stream, an airplane pilot doing acrobatic stunts in his plane in the Kenai area, the tram at Alyeska resort outside Anchorage, an oil rig in Pruehoe Bay, and finally some reindeer and an Indian/Eskimo dance. The beginning of the video reminds me of an infomersial due to the way they keep promoting themselves. The places they filmed and put on this tape are not bad choices, but personally, I would have liked to seen somemore wildlife shots in the video. The only animals shown in the video are bear, reindeer, and fish. I think some footage of the capital city of Juneau, fishing shots from out in the ocean, or footage of the inside passage would have been more interesting. If you are looking for a great video to see or remember Alaska by, I think there are better videos to buy. If you are intersted in some excellent graphic work (and are not as interested in Alaska), this is a great video to see.

Film crew visits Alaska and films themselves,

The concept of this video is actually quite intriguing and about 5 of the 45 minutes is spectacular. The film crew seemed to be quite enamered with themselves. There are too many shots of them walking, standing, sitting, falling down and the backs of their heads. There are only a few unique locations in the film. When they visit a tram, we don't even get to see the view from the top of the mountain. Nearly the entire film is shot in 2D, but when it is 3D it is truly amazing. Not worth the price of admission by any means. Too bad because there are very view 3D selections available.
