Alaska Birds Field Guide,
By
This review is from: Alaska Birds: An Introduction to Familiar Species (State Nature Guides) (Pamphlet)
This is a decent field guide for quick reference. But there is only one example for each species and the birds are in their breeding plumage. Good if you are in Alaska during the spring time and only looking for one gender.

This field guide was very useful during our recent inspection of our Alaskan property. It's small size makes it easy to carry while hiking in the forest, and it contains all the most common birds you might see throughout the state. We were able to quickly identify and differentiate the birds we spotted using this guide. Now, if they could only come out with a bird song guide (on CD/DVD obviously) it would be even easier to identify the local birds!!

On a recent trip to Alaska, we went hiking in the rain and this little pamphlet was the only thing that surveyed the downpour unharmed- very brief by nature it helped me differentiate water fowl and other common birds in the mountains.

Thought this was a book, it never said it was a laminated folded brochure. Disappointed with purchase. I guess I didn't see the word pamphlet. Oh well, will read closely next time. It will be a nice quick guide for my parents when they go to Alaska.

Like other guides of this nature, this bird guide is very handy for the amateur birder visiting Alaska. It is compact and lightweight, yet durable. It doesn't have all the birds, but it has the most common ones and the illustrations are excellent.

I'd love to be able to say that this article was delivered to my grandson in Alaska without a problem, but that is NOT the case. He never got it AND I contacted the seller numerous times with nary a resolve to the situation. I am soooo glad this was not a large purchase, but have yet to figure out why the vendor does not contact me with a solution. Unfortunately, the charge has probably already been paid on my credit card, so now I have to figure out how to get a refund. However, the more important thing is that I told my grandson it was coming and it never got there. We have a credibility issue from his grandmother here. Not good.
Sincerely, Sandra Cohen |
